Michael Roger introduces the Decomposition Book(TM), a clever riff on the traditional school composition notebook. The woodgrain design is a stylized representation of natural growth. The thick, looping lines of the grain look almost like a fingerprint, which is a fitting comparison for this unique product. The pages are 100% post-consumer-waste recycled paper, which is manufactured using energy harnessed from methane captured at a local landfill. The term "recycled" is a term of art in the paper world, and it doesn't have any particular significance on its own. On the other hand, the phrase "100% post-consumer-waste recycled" means that 100% of the paper was made from products that were used, discarded and then saved from the waste stream. In addition, the the entire book is printed using soy ink, which contains significantly fewer VOCs (volatile organic compounds that include toxic gases) than petroleum-based ink. Soy ink also lies higher on the surface of the paper, which makes it easier to remove when the paper is recycled yet again. Decomposition Books are proudly made in the USA.Compared to a ton of conventional virgin paper, a ton of our paper: Saves the equivalent of 17 mature trees; Reduces solid wastes by 1,081 pounds; Reduces water usage by 10,196 gallons; Reduces air emissions by 2,096 pounds; and Reduces natural gas consumption by 2,478 cubic feet by using bio-gas. This boils down to a per book savings of: 1/200 of a mature tree; 1/3 of a pound of solid waste; 3 gallons of fresh water; 4/5 of a pound of air emissions; and 3/4 of a pound of natural gas. Michael Roger Press, a family-run company, was founded in 1949 and has been producing innovative book designs for generations.
