I love this album. Some pieces from the period of the Warsaw piano competition are new for me. Ballade no.4 is also interesting, in Argerichian style. The bonus track of 14-year-old Martha playing the Chopin's Etude no.1 is simply amazing. I really recommend this album to all the Argerich-fans, because it makes you feel like being in Warsaw that time, listenning to the stunning performances of beautiful music by Chopin.

For any classical pianist, Chopin is the touchstone, and on this album, Martha Argerich proves why she is not just the greatest living pianist, but one of the greatest ever. Her way with Chopin is unmatched: dexterity, the softness of touch, speed, phrasing, and the way she brings out the music, almost letting it play her. Her recording of Chopin's Ballade #4 is astonishing: heart-wrenching and dramatic, filled with delicate pathos and then storming crescendos. It is remarkable how a solo piano, in her two hands, becomes as dynamic and thunderous as a full symphony. And then you have all of the performances which culminated in her winning the 1965 Chopin competition in Warsaw. Her accuracy and clarity are unmatched, and her speed and power bring out dynamics and secondary and tertiary melodies and counter rythms that other pianists can only imagine. A must buy.

• The welcome series of the young Martha Argerich on Doremi has arrived at volume four containing items from the 1965 Seventh International Chopin Competition in Warsaw of which Argerich was the First Prize winner. By 1965 Argerich had already won the first prize at two other international piano competitions in Geneva and Bolzano. And she was already signed to a recording contract with DGG. These selections of award clinching performances as recorded live from the Chopin Competition, presented in flawless sound, are valuable documents of the risen star. The A bonus track is a very rare recording from Buenos Aires of the 14 years old “lioness at the piano” playing the Etude, op.10 no.1.

This torrid recital of Chopin from Martha's competition winning streak is such hot stuff I have a new destination in mind for when they invent time travel. It won't be just to listen - I expect I'll be running the gamut from bold flirtation to full on abduction marriage. I'm not usually very keen on Chopin but with Martha Argerich tickling his ivories I've never wanted to be a piano so much in my life.This has a lovely blend of etudes (Op.10 No.1 - imagine!) and preludes, polonaises, nocturnes, the 3rd sonata exemplary and an emotionally fearless Barcarolle. The 4th Ballade in Cologne and we even get to hear the 14 year old Martha tackling the aforementioned etude in Buenos Aires.Heady days!

過去にも複数のレーベルから出た音源も含まれているが、このＣＤが一番音が良い。演奏は練習曲が特に素晴らしく鮮やかの一言。凄い。期待していた、バラード四番はやや機械的な演奏でした。ただ、コーダでの指の動きは誰も容易に超えられないレベル。
