One has to train one's best ear on its retrofitted lyre
This book, coming out hours after her untimely death, is a continuing investigation of the ability of poetry to increase us. As in Cooling Time, she blends prose meditation and poetry and speaks to us warmly in our most human place. Extending Emily Dickinson, she writes, "Poetry moves by indirection and in so doing avoids the crowd. This does not mean it would not draw others in. But one has to be responsive to its movement. One has to adjust to its unfamiliar configurations. One has to train one's best ear on its retrofitted lyre." I have the sense that I am sitting with her in a room and she is opening her best self to me, fearlessly and gently. I will miss this poet, who I know chiefly through her work, and will reread her as necessary to celebrate her. This book is important and I think will be adopted in all classes and workshops where poetry is taught.

A New Voive (to me, now corrected!) Voice, Singing.
Wonderful poems, in an unusual format ... worth the title alone. I plan to read all of her published work soonest. Anyone liking lyrical, thoughtful poetry, in unusual format, I strongly recommendthis volume as an introduction to her work.

I loved the randomness and the extensive knowledge of Wright's voice
I loved the randomness and the extensive knowledge of Wright's voice. I was introduced to fine poets and artists unfamiliar to me.

Sip on these writings
If one could drink pages, I'd be sipping this so that it would last. I haven't finished it because I keep re reading the page entries. Beautiful book!

I love C.D Wright's work and this was not a disappointment. Part essay, part poetry, part something I can't quite put my finger on. The world is a sadder place without Wright in it.
