Like every other review
Like every other review...unscrew the spout and throw it away. The can itself is the same thickness and feel of every gas can your dad had.A flaw in this design is a lack of a grip handle on both edges of the bottom. The indent on the opposite side of the spout is fine if you have an angled spout, but most replacements are straight "flex" nozzles that don't really flex unless you point it with one hand, or somehow get it into the gas hole before the gas dumps out. Turning the nozzle backwards lets you pour more naturally, and an indent on the bottom under the nozzle would be a nice addition. I'm going to build a strap with a handle to make up for this.Note that this doesn't have a vent hole, so either drill one, or get a spout that auto-vents.Side note...the boxes these were shipped in were Pep Boys boxes. I searched the internet a few times trying to find this style can, I don't know why Pep Boys didn't show up, but try calling them locally first.

A good can
Pros:The Scepter ECO gas can is the sturdiest consumer grade 5 gal. plastic can I've seen--much more so than the typical 5 gal. cans found most places. It stands up nice and tall, so it's easier to store more gas in the same amount of floor space than with most of the typical fatter, shorter plastic cans (or the round metal ones). Compared to the the much more expensive metal cans in a similar form factor, this can won't dent and is certainly lighter. This form factor is well suited for toting around on a Jeep or in the back of a truck, or for storing generator gas in the shed.Cons:They're not stackable (but neither are most consumer cans). They're plagued with cumbersome and messy C.A.R.B. compliant spouts (just like every other consumer can sold today). If you're just pouring gas into your push lawn mower, stick to the two gallon cans--managing any tall 5 gal. can while trying to manipulate the CARB spout will be a bit cumbersome.Misc:This is not a consumer version of Scepter's military can: the dimensions are a little different (a bit taller and narrower); this only has one handle instead of three; it doesn't stack; and this can's threaded opening is smaller.

Certainly the best plastic can on the market minus the spout that is replaceable
This is the best gas can I have tried bar the European style steel "jerry" cans that I have not tried. I have some regular old steel Jeep/military gas cans that are no longer available due to some piss ant lawyer. Better replacement spouts are available through Amazon and another big auction site, that are Scepter brand, kind of cheap. I have not quite figured out how these new ones work. I don't blame Scepter, they just respond to a certain regulation heavy administration that you probably voted for. I was not interested in trying to poor 5 gallons of gas through a straw. This is worse than the smaller ones brought in with unleaded gas nozzles, thank you Jimmy Carter. Any one who has served their country probably used the "regular" (leaded) gas spout named after a male donkey's anatomy that can dump 5 gallons of gas in a little more time than it took you to read this sentence. If you voted the hopey changey thing you should embrace the standard nozzle and quit whining, you got what you asked for.

Didn't spill a drop in 5,000 miles, would buy again!
I purchased 4 of these to use driving from Georgia to Anchorage, Alaska. Over 5,000 miles and they didn't leak a single drop while laid on their side on the roof rack of my SUV. I had to use them twice, each time they worked perfectly (once at -30F, once at -15F). The safety mechanism was confusing the first time I used it, but fairly easy to comprehend. Twist the lock on the nozzle, then push the spout into the can to pour gas. Invert the spout when not in use. My only complaint is that they pour fairly slowly, but that is just part of the safety that is built into the cans. I would buy these again and can't recommend them highly enough. They saved us from walking twice while driving across the Alcan Highway in the middle of winter. I also had 2 other brand gas cans on my trailer and they leaked like crazy before I even made it to Louisiana. I used the gas out of them and threw them in the trash.

Hate the spout, but know its not all their fault; like shape
Bought several at once. Cans were intact, but the nozzle is difficult to screw on, and leaks regardless of how carefully installed. I like the thin tall-ness of the can, yet I am an adult, use care, use my head, and take responsibility when storing it to avoid tipping it over. Even though spout has a vent built inside, that is inadequate, and the can chugs when pouring gas, making holding it high fatiguing. Also it lacks a back handle for dispensing ease; most do. Hate the Gov-mandated spouts on all cans now, and this spout version is worse than others. The Gov. spouts leak, spill immense amounts of gas, and require three hands to dispense gas. I'm desperately seeking old spouts that can work here. Even the "Specter" out-of-country replacement spouts leak with this can; they weren't as good as the appeared in their ads. I am not an anarchist nor fringe element but wish the government and lawyers had kept out of this. I miss the BLITZ cans. Lacking alternatives, I'd probably buy this again because its tall thin profile works in storage and transportation. If usable spouts didn't leak, were easier to use, and I could get a spout that was reasonable, I'd have rated 4.5 .

Good Storage Container-Be Careful Pouring!
This is a good storage container for gasoline. As one other reviewer has noted, you'll want to discard the pesky child-proof spout that the container comes with and use Scepter ribbed spout, part #03647 to pour the gas and Scepter part #09643 to store the gas. I have invested in some PRI-G gas stabilizer for storage purposes. Let's face it, you see the long lines at the gas stations during emergencies, and you realize it's worthwhile to have some gas on hand "just in case." I'll probably pick up another plastic jerry can down the road.UPDATE: When I poured gas from the can into my car, the spout came off and gasoline splashed into my eye! Not good! Fortunately, I was home and was able to wash it with water right away. Gasoline really burns like hell in your eye! Since then, I obtained a different five-gallon jug with a handle on top and in back for easier pouring.
