Mel Bay First Lessons Accordion Paperback – September 24, 2002

Especially if you played the accordion in grade school and you have picked it up again, this book and CD emphasizes the basic fundamentals and gets you right back up to speed. Gary Dahl is a great teacher with a sense of humor and inspires you with his love of this instrument. The CD is invaluable--you can hear exactly how the lesson and pieces that follow are supposed to sound. There is enough material in this book for months of practice and I think it is the best of all the other beginner books out there.

Nice for beginner to use!

Buy this one first...just as it says...first lessons. Buy it before you get an accordian...and see if you really want to try to play one. Worth the read and the money.

It looks good, but have not had time to try it out yet. Probably do it this winter here in WI.

The author is not the guy who invented the pet rock. Totally false!

Gary Dahl has written an excellent instructional book with easy to learn lessons. The book starts with basic fingering and note reading. Simple traditional folk songs are introduced and the student rapidly progresses to alternating basses finishing with Ode To Joy. There is a CD that comes with the book allowing the student to play along.Dust off the old accordion and pick up this book. A rewarding challenge!

This book was not suitable for me as a person who already reads music - it was much too basic. It would be fine for a complete beginner not just to the accordion but also to music in general. I would really like some books for beginner Accordionists who CAN do music. Best bit was that Amazon refunded without my having to return the book. Customer service brilliant!

A good book. I hope they have more like it in the series. Well presented and clearly laid out pages.

I don't recommend this title if you want to use it without mentor!
