CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT THIS
We take this every time we go out in the summer. We have 3 in the freezer. Our pup really appreciates this…quickly helps to bring down his core temperature — much faster than ambient cooling alone (air conditioner or fan). This ice mat is far better than those gel mats that purport to cool on contact (they don’t work.)I put two mats in my back pack; one for our dog and one for me. It makes the heat and humidity bearable.NOTE: if the mat feels like it’s no longer cold, splash water on it and you can get more cooling time. (I found this out by accident when I spilled water on the mat)CON:The outer cover SHRINKS! Ugh! Even if you cold wash and air dry…and they don’t sell the covers separately. Never wash in warm water, and never put it in the dryer (even to air dry)…I made that mistake.

Worth it
Highly recommend for doggies who don’t do well in the heat. We bought this for a camping trip and it was a life saver. My only regret is not buying a 2nd ice pack that way I could have one freezing while the other is being used.

It Really Works Well
This mat with the freezable insert is just what our older Cock-A-Poo needed. He sleeps on our bed and if the room is warm to hot, he will just sit at the end of the bed and pant at us for hours. He is pretty smart, so once we put him on it and held him there for a few minutes, it didn't take long at all for him to lay on it, sometimes with his whole body, sometimes just with his head and upper torso. Either way, it works! It really calms him down and allows us to get a good night's rest. The only way it could be made better is to make it about 1/2 again larger. Our dog is about 21 lbs and I would say any dog 25lbs or more you may want to get 2 mats. It also lasts most of the night but by the time the mat starts warming up around 4 to 5 am the room has cooled down to where it doesn't bother him anyway. BTW, we do not put the freezable insert into the mat until we are ready to go to sleep.

my little Pom LOVES his CoolDog cool pad!
I have a 6lb Pomeranian who just absolutely loves his cool pad! We live in Florida and the summers can be a little tough for him. I talked to a few vets about shaving him, but they said that shaving dogs can actually make them MORE susceptible to heat because their fur coats act as an insulator against the heat. This means that their coat keeps out heat during the summer as much as it traps heat during the winter. Plus, shaving a dog can destroy how the fur grows and who could risk destroying such a beautiful coat!?!So I looked in to getting him a few cool pads that he could lay on. I tried using the “no freezing” pads but found that he never really laid on them. I just don’t think they made that much a difference as far as lowering his body temperature. I went out on a whim to try this pad, which does have to be frozen, but I am SO glad I did because he absolutely LOVES IT. Whenever we come back from a walk or from playing outside, he goes and stands in front of the freezer until I get out the cool pad for him to lay on. I started with just one cool pad, but he uses it so much I recently purchased a second one. This way I can keep one in the freezer while he is using the other. I keep my house at about 76 degrees during the day and the pad stays cold for 3 hours, then stays ‘cool’ for another 1-2 hours. If I’m doing yard work outside and the dogs are with me, I’ll keep one on the patio and it will stay cold for about an hour (which is impressive given it’s currently 95 degrees and VERY humid). I even put one of the pads on the foot of the bed at night and he always starts out on the cool pad (yes, I spoil my dogs, don’t judge me !) The external pad is very easy to clean, although it does tend to fade after a while. I’ve had one pad for about 15 months and the colors have faded a bit (which is expected when it’s being laid on every day!).Great product! Comes highly recommended.

A perfect purchase-excellent for my Large Dog.
Love it, love it, and love it !!!The outer shell is heavy duty black vinyl/ printed canvas.I ordered two. Although people say the size is small I prefer it for my large dogs own comfort and safety. If i cant use an ice pack against my skin for very long, why would I force my dog to lay on ice. With the smaller size, my senior Golden Doodle can have the ice pack on 1/4 of her bed and lay on it when she chooses. She no longer has to switch from her orthopedic bed to the wood floor several times a night. She does not have to be forced to lay on only hard ice or a hard floor to be cool. She now gets both.My Gracie girl loves to lay her chest on it in the car. She is a rescue with severe abandonment anxiety and leaving her home In the summer was a last resort for those extremely hot days. She went from panting even on cooler days to minimal, if at all, panting on hot days. She actually naps quietly in the car with completely relaxed breathing. And when she does not want to be on the cool ice anymore, she simply adjusts her position. I recommend purchasing two. I keep the second pad frozen and ready to switch out and can velcro the two together with the attached straps (great option) if needed.I am so happy to see my girl comfortable and safely cooled down when in the car, thatI actually show this product to all the random people who stop me and comment on my adorably sweet Gracie Girl.A great price and a product that works.-oh,... I have also realized that if needed, I could repair any broken ice cells with duct tape and small ice packs made for lunch pails. Therefore, this is a better environmental choice and is not a “throw away when broken” item.
