Would it fall apart if it got wet

this is a really well made basket. I don't leave mine out in the elements, but if it got a little rain on it it would be fine. It has a real thick lacquer finish. All baskets eventually will fall apart when left outside for long periods of time Hope I helped

how far apart are the basket straps?

The straps are 5 inches apart and can go up to 6 inches apart .

Is inside surface of basket smooth?
