Oremus: A Treasury of Latin Prayers with English Translations (Latin and English Edition)

Many English prayers if not most are incorrect in their wording and some even don't have the right title - they've taken the first line of the prayer and called it that. I can't even say they were older versions of these prayers because they're not. I'm surprised coming from Ave Maria Press. These are not the traditional Catholic prayers' wording. I noticed the book doesn't have an Imprimatur/Nihil Obstat normally found in catholic books especially prayer books. I worry then about the veracity of the Latin translation which, obviously I cannot verify. I was looking forward to this book but I am totally disappointed.

I should have listened to the reviews that pointed out that the order of translation into the Latin was out of wack, ie. not taken from the Vulgate. The author says he tried to make it read as if it was in English. If that was an issue, folks would be praying in English! Most people that are praying in Latin are traditionally minded Catholics. As soon as I saw the inclusion of the Luminous mysteries (not traditional), the book went in the trash. I will buy more copies of Brother Ada's book. He tells why the Luminous Mysteries are NOT included.

Finally, the book I had been looking for for years. I am grateful that someone actually produced it. I wish it had even more prayers, but it is already great with what it has. Deo gratias!

This is a good source for Latin prayers but the English translations are horrible, IMO. Have a look at “The Lord’s Prayer” (The Our Father) and others that should be familiar to you. Compare the Magnificat and the Canticle of Zechariah in these translations to the English in the Liturgy of the Hours. And more.
