Great for French learners who love HP
Purchased this Livre Audio (French language audio book) as a gift for a Harry Potter fan taking HS French 3. The recordings are high quality with a native French speaker, so it makes following the familiar story easy. Because the story is familiar, you can perfect your ear and accent. If the mp3's are loaded onto an ipod, you can adjust the speed of the speech to make it easier to understand.

Learning French
For those learning French, this is a wonderful addition to your language library. Like the English versions, the trials and tribulations of young people at school are the center of the story. It's a tale about learning new roles, new relationships, and about the world at large--however disguised by magic and fantasy--and has a unique charm. I found the vocabularly and sentence structure a little more challenging, but I noticed a similar development in the English versions. It's almost as though the author was writing for a specific child or children whose reading skills and maturity had progressed beyond that reflected in book one. Alternatively she herself might be just reaching her full stride as an author. Whatever the case, in French it translates to a marvelous progression of learning materials from the basics of book one to the more advanced level of this one.

French the wizarding way
I was thrilled to find the entire Harry Potter series in French. I have to learn a language for my degree requirements, and while everyone SWEARS that Spanish is more helpful, I just never liked it much. French is much more "romantic" (but rather nasally, don't you think?). What better way to learn of Romance than through the words of J.K. Rowling? I can't wait to quote passages back to my Harry Potter-obsessed friends.

WRONG LANGUAGE SENT
I clicked on the 3rd Harry Potter Book...I didn't notice that the FIRST Book 3 to come up was in FRENCH! I had ordered books #1 and #2 in ENGLISH...so I definitely didn't expect that the first book listed would be in French. Now I can't find a way to contact anyone to try replace this FRENCH version at $29 for an ENGLISH version. This is frustrating. It's a lot of money for a book I can't understand...and I don't know anyone who speaks French. What can be doene?

Cool for HP fans who know/are learning French!
It's a very cool translation and a very nice quality. The book itself is not beginner French read, it's a professional translation, so not the best choice for beginner French learners :)

Fun read
Great series to practice my French comprehension. I'll be sad when I'm finished with the series.

Fantastic Book!
What a fantastic book! I read them all in English, but wanted to challenge myself to read it in French. The pages were very thin, but that made the book smaller and easier to transport. The book arrived much faster than I expected it.

I love the Harry Potter books
I am in my late sixties and recently decided to revive my interest in the French language. So armed with Duolingo on my phone I began revisiting a language I have not dallied with since my school days! I love the Harry Potter books.....my grandchildren lent them to me!! So what better way to brush up my french than to read the series in that language. I have the English version alongside me to help with any translations, obviously J K Rowlings magical creatures and strange potions do not feature too strongly in the average French class of the 1960's!!! So now, I am reading the whole series again, first in French, then again in English, and then I watch the DVD, before going on to the next book in the series. I am reading the Goblet of Fire at the moment. Am thoroughly enjoying myself!!

a brilliant plot
I didn't join the Harry Potter bandwagon when the craze started; I thought the style was not great, the narrative clunky, and that basically it's a load of kids and teachers behaving like your average school but with a few dragons and potions thrown in; in short, I felt it lacked magic.I am now working through the series in French, and, perhaps because I am working in a foreign language, I am reading the books as a child might read them. The things that irritated me don't anymore, I am charmed by J K Rowling's wacky sense of humour, and dazzled by the skill with which she weaves the plot - and the plot in Azkaban really is beyond clever, winding the up tension to the very last pages.I would rate it even more highly if it were not for the author's 19th century approach to animal welfare. Animals, and especially birds, J.K., do not belong in cages. One more thing - don't judge the book by the film, because the latter misses the point entirely. At least I think this is true - I got so cross with the film I gave up a third of the way through.

A really good translation of the original.
An excellent book to "brush up" my French by reading a book which I already know very well, in English. I have the original version at hand, to check my interpretion.

A nicely laid out book for fans of the series
A nicely laid out book for fans of the series, who like myself are using texts they already know to guide them with foreign language learning. Very helpful for those at a more advanced level.
