Really solid board that ticks almost all boxes
Lives up to the Tomahawk series expectation. Excellent motherboard with no major deal breakers. Can't speak about OC performance since I don't dabble too much into it, but every review mentions that it does have a really solid VRM so it shouldn't be a concern. I had no problems running dual 8 gig RAM sticks at 3600 MHz with XMP but it has a 6-layer PCB so RAM overclocking headroom is also ample. Not the motherboard for you if you care too much about RGB though, since the only RGB on it is underneath the chipset heatsink and pretty subdued. Would have liked to see some RGB on the VRM heatsink as well like the more expensive Gaming Carbon board, but its personally not that important to me. Another thing I would have liked is having more USB ports on the back instead of the 1 Gbps LAN port - having 2 LAN ports is pretty pointless for a regular PC. 5 USB-A ports is barely enough for my use but might not be for everyone, although it does have USB-C 3.2 Gen2 port so you could easily attach a Thunderbolt USB hub. Looks-wise it has a really nice black and gunmetal finish that will probably match most builds without problems, although if you're obsessed with having RGB on everything this might leave you desiring more. Pros: - 6-layer PCB, great VRM quality - EZ debug LED for troubleshooting - Integrated IO shield (standard at this price point but still worthy of mentioning) - BIOS flashback (came in handy while installing my Ryzen 5 5600X) - ALC 1200 audio codec - M.2 heatsinks for both slots (to cover up ugly looking M.2 drives) Cons: - Only 5 USB type-A ports - Very minimal RGB, no RGB on VRM heatsink - No inbuilt WiFi (not an issue for me but some might like to have it instead of an extra LAN port) - MSI's RGB software leaves a lot to be desired The cons are quite superficial IMO cementing that its a great choice with no real issues. I had a tough time deciding between this and the B550 Aorus Pro which has a lot more USB ports but I went with this because the Aorus board is known to have USB issues with XMP enabled. Overall I'm quite happy with it and it's a safe choice - you can't really go wrong with it. Pricing is a bit iffy and unpredictable though, anything above 20k and you'd be better off with an X570 board but at 16k-18k I feel its a decent deal.
