Q: Does this require a hub for internet access?

Yes - The thermostat will work without the hub but only in offline mode. It will still connect wirelessly to other devices, TRV, Smart plug, Smart relay etc, but to be controlled using the Smart Home app remotely you need to buy the hub.

Q: If you do not have the hub how do you set this up in offline mode? the manual refers to "Open Zigbee network" but its not clear what this is!

Timolean underfloor heating use salus under there own name with full instructions very helpful
