Wonderful experience for my great-niece and family!
This was a Birthday gift for my 7 year old great-niece who lives in another state. Her Mom kept me updated on the progress and it was so much fun! Out of the 10 caterpillars, all of them made it to the chrysalis stage. Only one didn't make it due to a wing issue. When they set the butterflies free they had cousins over to enjoy the moment with them and it was so much fun for all of them! Wish I could have been there! I would highly recommend this product. Only disappointment for me was having to pay shipping and handling, but it came with the caterpillars and for some of the kits you get a voucher to get free caterpillars but have to pay shipping and handling, so likely would have ended up costing the same.

Easy project very fun
This was a very neat experience with my 8 year old. All our caterpillars arrived safely and developed into butterflies. The directions were very simplified and it was cool to watch them eat their food all day then eventually go into their cocoons. I am glad I read some reviews and definitely agree when the time comes to transfer caterpillar’s to their cage, make sure you put a piece of paper or paper plate underneath the cage. They will make a mess once they emerge from chrysalis and leave a red stain behind. Aside from that, we absolutely loved it and can’t wait to do it again .

Great quality and quantity.
I bought this caterpillar butterfly kit for my special education classroom. We ended up getting 9 caterpillars! The habitat net container was extremely small. I had to use something else for the butterflies. I will order again.

Delightful!
All these years it never occurred to me that I could watch butterflies hatch from right under my nose. I decided to try this out for myself and to show my 2 ferral children how fun this would be. I was more invested in this... And once the butterflies hatched, my cats were more invested. That being said, make sure you find them the safest spot possible and away from cats. I bought this deal, each container had 7 caterpillars. Then to my surprise an extra one, so total 15. One unfortunately fell off while it was in the chrysalis stage and didnt make it. All of them hatched, one was injured due to my wild ginger kitten. I had to battle with my 5 year old as well as she kept opening the zipper and the critters escaped all over the room and there are 3 cats ready to pounce . I also ordered them too early in the season, so make sure its warmer and there be plenty of nectar for them when they get released. Also keep an eye on how fast they hatch cuz I thought I had lots of time before I hung up the cocoons. I released the butterflies 4 days after they hatched and it was barely 55... At least they got a bit of freedom before they succumb to nature. I decided this wasnt for me as it was rather traumatizing with my kids and cats... But now a month later, Im actually wanting to do another batch. Waiting mid summer though. Oh and im a photographer so... Photographing was fun.

Worthless Cage. Otherwise awesome.
As others have stated, the netted cage is wayyyy too small to house the butterflies. On the up side, it did come with 8 health caterpillars that all transformed. I ended up using box and cutting windows which I covered with some toulle to create a bigger cage for the butterflies to "hatch" into. That worked well. Overall it was a fun gift for my 6 year old and all of my kids (up to 12) loved watching the transformation.

An Engaging and Affordable Science Observation for Kids
As a teacher, I'm always looking for exciting and engaging ways to teach content. As we were learning about life cycles, I decided to purchase this butterfly kit. it was very easy to understand the directions, easy to care for the pupa and chrysalis' and thrilling to see our butterflies emerge! Although the description said there would be 5 pupa, ours had 8, which we enjoyed watching. I put the cup with the pupas and their food on a table where we could all observe them. Once they had entered their chrysalis', which they had attached to the paper lid covering the cup, I pinned it to the top of the cage. It was exciting to watch the metamorphosis! One thing to be aware of is that, after they emerge, the butterflies will not only be hungry, as the directions state, but they will also evacuate their systems in the form of red liquid. We are pretty certain this was a sort of "butterfly poop" but, it cleaned up quickly with a wet wipe. Just don't touch the butterflies or pupas with it.

how to preserve endangered species....
1) The the mail service was fast after ordering 10 Painted Lady Butterflies for a Cross Sound District Garden Project. **I received 14 caterpillars and gave 7 to a friend in the garden club and kept 7. They can in a clear, covered dish with their food in it. One little cater. was tiny and did not make it to pupa stage. 2) I bought the kit which came with a mesh carrier, and instructions on what to do for the caterpillars. 3) It took about a week to go into the pupa/chrysallis stage, and another 12 days to hatch out. 4) the Staff where I work watched them progress and then we released them on July 17, 2021. We made a 7 minute video. 5) I am doing a science board 'educational' for the garden clubs and will send in all of my paperwork for an upcoming District Award. 6) Burpee Company had wonderful seed envelopes for sale at the local Home Depot Stores which was great for this project. and the online info was invaluable. 7) Of course, I had raised 5 Monarchs about 20 years ago, but the products and services and info today, is so much better. What a lovely, fun project. Highly recommend this pollinator project. Madeline West, Cross Sound District of Garden Clubs, "Birds, Bees, Butterflies" chairperson, Seabeck, Washington

Exciting activity
My son did this at school and wanted to have his own at home. We set a goal, he passed it and we got butterflies. The kit came very fast, the caterpillars were so small but grew super fast. Each step was exciting, my son loved to check on them each day. We released our butterflies, yesterday - they all survived.
