When the original Malibu transformer was no longer working, I didn't want to spend the big bucks for an original replacement. Since we're only running two low voltage carriage lamps drawing 30w, this was a perfect replacement. As easy as can be to replace using only a screwdriver to remove the leads from the old transformer and to attach them to this new transformer. I wish there were "Off" and "On" options on the selector switch. As it is, it's only "Auto-8hr-6hr-4hr" choices. Having "Off" and "On" options is mainly to test things but I'm ok without it. The unit works when the "Photoelectric Switch" senses "darkness", then turns the unit on and stays on until either the time is met (example: 4 hours if the selector switch is on "4hr") or until it's dawn again (if you have the "Auto" option on the selector switch).One thing to note: when you cover the Photoelectric Switch "eye" with your thumb or hand to test if the unit will come on after you initially install this transformer, there is a delay of about 30-seconds before it will power your lights. Just FYI so you don't think the unit is faulty. Had it working now 3 nights and it's working just fine. Can't comment on long term durability yet. I recommend this!

I really like this product and if there was a manual on switch option I would have given five stars.I own two of these and they replicate each other very close which is good when lighting my home.

Take it out of the box. Screw the wire ends on. Plug it in. Move the switch in the back to the desired position. Let there be light!

There are two major problems with this design. First, where you screw the electrical line into the unit is very poorly designed. The connectors are too small and it has a wired screw and u-shaped nut to hold the landscape wires in place that is resessed into the plastic housing making it VERY hard to connect the wires to. Secondly, there is no on/off switch. It has Auto, 2, 4, 6, 8 hour. Which means if you want to use in with another type of control system, it add a layer of troubleshooting. I wouldn't recommend this.

I got this product to replace the failed transformer with mechanical timer for my landscape lighting. Installation was a breeze, setting the time and timer required careful attention to the included instructions. But once done, the automatic setting that adjusts on and off time to sunset and sunrise in my region eliminates the need to be continually adjusting the timer with changing seasons. Lights work perfectly and turn on at dusk and off at dawn. My transformer is installed in an indoor location so using the photocell feature is not an option for me. There are a number of other time setting options depending on individual needs and preferences but the sunset/sunrise option is ideal for me.

If the transformer is very warm when it should be off, then it is using power for no reason. I installed a light sensor between the outlet and the transformer to prevent the transformer from using power when it should be off. My other transformers are cool when not in use.Resolved: The supplier agreed that the transformer should not have a temperature of 108.9 degrees when it should be off. They sent me a replacement transformer that does not heat up when not being on.

Very easy to hook up supply and lead from pathway lighting. Only has dusk to dawn, 4 and 6 hour option and wished in included 2 hour option.
