No batteries, worked out of box, fab!
I love the fact that this thing doesn’t have to be plugged in and can just take an image file or generate a text image to display. Like other people complained about, finding the sweet spot of the NFC chip is a little finicky, but once you know where it is, it’s not a big deal. The app to upload images isn’t a super user experience design or anything, but it has all the features you would need to rotate and scale an image in order to upload it, so no complaints here. My spouse ended up printing a little bracket for this thing to hang using a 3-D printer so we can easily take it out, update, and slip it back in.

Works pretty well with a little learning curve.
In the description it doesn't warn you that the app is only available in a app store for I phones. Android you have to download from manually and install on non Samsung phones... luckily a friend gave me one he didn't use anymore. there is a sweet spot for the nfc to work... kind of a little lower than dead center of sign. I put on my office door and change the messages daily to cheer up the other workers :)update 11/15/2024: I guess attaching it to the door may have not been a good Idea.. found out that its held together by magnets not glued, and one time the door shut it came apart and the screen flopped down, and the data ribbon separated from the screen... I messaged the seller about this on 11/14/2024 in the am, and it has been over 24hrs and no responses yet... will update if I do.update 11/18/2024 they say they are shipping a replacement... awaiting its arrival.update again.. new one arrived all is well again, coworkers enjoying the daily fun notes :) and added some tape to the case to not allow accidental separation.

Not a consumer product
The media could not be loaded. It is a cool little gadget and the idea is really great, no need for power or wireless electronics to be constantly on. Just use your smartphone to provide power and data only when you need to refresh the image on the e-ink display. Think of this device as a developer oriented though, as it is not really a consumer-oriented product. You get the display ready to be used outside of the box, but there are no instructions or manual, no information on what app to use or how etc. You can head on to Waveshare's Wiki: 7.5inch NFC-Powered e-Paper for instructions on how to use it.Apparently, the device does not work with Samsung or Google Android phones, might be problematic for some other brands if they are not NFC ready or do not manage to supply enough power for the refresh function to work properly. There is also an iOS app called NFC E-Tag on the App Store that should work with more recent iPhones.Sometimes you cannot find the right place to refresh the image on the display as you need to position your smartphone's NFC in the center of the e-ink display where the receiver is located. As you can see the video the first time was a miss, it worked just fine the second time and the display image was updated from the blank screen to a cute kitten. The app is pretty basic and easy to use, though if working with images you might want to prepare them in black/white format and 800x480 resolution before sending them to the e-ink display for best results. It supports dithering of images to make more complex and colorful images seem nicer on the two-color display, though that may not work on all images well. And you can also print basic text directly from the app. Pretty easy to be used, just make sure you select the 7.5inch e-Paper display from the list and give it a few tries to find the best positioning of your smartphone. The display device does come with a USB port on, but the exact function of that one is a mystery. Also, the case is held together by not so strong magnets, so it can easily pop open if you drop it and may result in damage of the internal electronics or the display, so you should be careful with that one.Again, more of a developer-oriented device to play around with e-ink than a consumer ready and foolproof product that is easy to be used.

Fun and Novel
I'm using this digital display on my fridge to share information and sometimes as just a photo frame. The accompanying app is bare bones with no instruction but easy enough to figure out on your own. You can transfer images on it through the app and the display is surprising clear. I think the best thing about this display that makes it stand out a from all the others is that it does not need batteries to work. I'll never have to take it down to recharge.Transferring text/images can be a little tricky at first, but it isn't a big learning curve. And even though it's a black/white E-paper screen, it presents pictures fairly clearly. Having to take it down only for changing the information and never having to recharge it is a definite plus.

Works with iPhone fairly well
It works good with my iPhone. I primarily use it to put my daughters school lunch menu on since it always seems to get lost.I take a quick snap, and my iPhone uploads it fairly reliably. Usually I’ll take the case off my phone and kind of hunt for the spot, but 4:5 times it uploads on the first go.Also is kind of neat as an e-ink frame. I just wish I knew if it came shipped with a screen protector or mine just has loose plastic on the front. Too scared to pull it off!

Great Product, Unable to Get a Successful Transfer without plug in
Not Sure if i am missing something or not, but I cannot seem to update the screen without a charger attached

It works!
It's a bit finnicky, you have to play around with your phone to get the NFC chips to align. The app also feels janky... but in the end, it works. My phone is a google pixel running android 13.

Not Compatible with Android 11 / Samsung Note 10
The device seems promising, the bezel is not overly wide, and the device isn't too thick. The plan was to have it mounted on the boat's fridge and use it to post the weather forecast to whomever else is on board. Unfortunately, the device does not seem to be compatible with the Samsung Note 10 running Android 11 (Feb 1, 2021). So, for now, I can not use this device, hoping the manufacturer of the device updates the Android app.
