Works great at a great price
We had a cordless phone set that lasted quite a while but the batteries started going out and they had been dropped quite a few times (one even got wet) so it was time for a replacement. This phone set has done everything we've needed, plus more. The main thing that this unit features that our older one didn't is the capability to manage the messaging system from the phone. We screen our calls and it's nice to be able to delete unwanted voicemails from the phone instead of having to do it at the base station.Call quality is great, and we really have no complaints with the way it works. I also like that the phones sync together, so if it says there is a missed call and I browse the calls on one phone, it syncs that information with the other phone so they both show the same information. As others have noted, the second phone base does not plug in to a phone jack, which is how our other phone system worked. It just plugs into the wall for power to charge the phone. All communication is done through the main base. The speakerphone part also seems better than our old phone. We always had trouble with one end of the conversation cutting out if we both tried to talk when using the phone on speaker, but this one seems to work better. We never used the speakerphone on the old unit because of this but now I use it when I need to be hands-free and haven't heard anyone complain about not hearing what I'm saying.Overall, this was actually an upgrade from our older phone unit so we're very pleased. Considering the price and how well it works, this phone set is a bargain.

Good Basic Phone, Easy to Use
I finally needed to replace my 10 year old Panasonic "land line" - the battery had little charge left. Did a lot of research, and agree with the reviews of this nice AT&T phone. It has great voice quality in both the handset and the answering machine, is very easy to program and set up for use. The base sets are small and compact. Handsets are lightweight and comfortable to hold. Not too many bells and whistles, if you don't need them. I just needed a good basic land line. And the price for getting 2 handsets is outstanding and a great value. The only nitpicky things I could say about this phone is that there is a small delay between pressing the numbers when dialing and the entry of the number. Also, when pressing keys for numerical prompts while listening to a message (i.e. "press 1 for sales, press 2 for service" for example)I find that I need to press the key twice - it doesn't take the prompt the first time it is pressed. Maybe the keys just need to be pressed more slowly and firmly in the first place! Again, very minor issues and would not change my overall review of this phone.

Had a Problem, But is was Resolved
I purchased this AT&T handset cordless phone in October, largely based on reviews on Amazon. After it arrived I followed the instructions to set it up. It came with two handsets, but on set-up one of the handsets would not work (it's screen said, "out of range or no pwr at base" and there was no dial tone). The other handset was working perfectly. I went to the troubleshooting section of the quick start guide and followed the instructions for the problem, but the problem remained. I called the AT&T phone number for warranty service. After going through AT&Ts goofy customer service menu I finally got to a real person. I explained the problem with the handset and what I had done to try and correct the problem. They agreed that the handset was faulty. They directed me to call Amazon since that is where I purchased it.I went to Amazon's online customer service webpage and chose the option of having them call me immediately. Within 2 seconds my phone rang and after a brief time on hold (maybe 15 seconds) I was talking to a great customer service representative. She listened to my story and immediately arranged for me to send the entire phone back for a replacement. The replacement phone arrived in 4 days (over a weekend). I set it up and everything now works perfectly. I mailed the bad phone back (they paid all postage for the replacement phone shipping and the return shipping of the bad phone). This was the best, most efficient, and easiest customer service experience I've ever had from an online company. So far the replacement phone has worked well and as advertised. The sound quality is good. The various phone features/settings were relatively easy to set up. I have DSL through my phone line and in the quick start guide they state that you must install a DSL filter on the DSL line. I haven't done that yet, but I haven't noticed any ill effects on the phone's sound quality.

This is more like it!
This is the second set of phones we've bought in several months. The last set, Uniden, were so bad that we bought these. What do I like about these? They work. I hate telephones and anything to do with them, especially their use. When I do have to talk on the phone I want them to function properly, if they don't, they only prolong the misery.Messages can be listened to and deleted from either handset. The other? Had to delete from every handset individually. These also sound good, very unlike the tomato can and string sound of many lower cost phones. The buttons have a nice feel and there are controls on the base so you can delete messages without looking under the furniture for a handset. They also look nice which always adds some satisfaction when "accidentally" hanging up on an in-law.The wife says adding contacts is easy and you'll have to take her word for it because I'm not allowed to do that. I have no trouble remember who is Jerk#1, Jerk#2 etc, etc. She likes to use names and such. I'm also not allowed to set the greeting message. Evidently one that states, "No we don't, no we haven't and no you can't. If that doesn't answer your question, feel free to hang up now" isn't appropriate. Who knew?Five stars because... Well, because I feel like it. And because they are cheap and work as advertised. All in all we are very happy with them.
