Great Product, Great Support
I had a 20 year old Carrier Zone controller on its last legs. I bought this Ecojay SmartZone-4X controller to replace the old one at the point I upgraded the furnace and cooling condenser. Before I bought the EcoJay product, I called in to verify that it would work with my equipment. I got a slow, detailed, thorough discussion, and decided to buy it.After my new HVAC equipment was installed, I installed the zone controller. The product does exactly what the sales literature says it will. I've had it in use for about a month, and it's performed flawlessly. This controller board is exceptionally well-designed and manufactured. It's easy to install, and the documentation is easy to follow. The board has LED lights on it and digital displays that tell you exactly what the board is doing, making it a snap to diagnose problems and monitor the board's performance during the test-out phase of installation. The post-sale support is exceptional on all counts. Fast, competent, patient, free. I am not an HVAC professional, and I made two mistakes during installation which would have ruined a less-well-designed board. I called EcoJay's support line, and they helped me fix my problems in minutes.I recommend this product with no reservations.

Top Notch Zone Controller
Had to replace furnace two years ago and got a two-stage unit with "one-stage compatibility" as required by my old Honeywell EMM3 zone panel. During a single digit negative cold snap, the furnace started tripping its protection limit circuit (running stage two for one zone for too long). Replaced the Honeywell with the Ecojay and all issues resolved. Between the supply air temp sensor and the "keep on stage one unless multiple zones require heat", furnace performance is at a new level. Zone temperatures are spot on and could not be happier. The unit has lots of LEDs to make any tech geek smile. More importantly, diagnostics are trivial because you know in real time exactly what signals the controller is receiving and what it is sending. The one opportunity for improvement would be including discrete terminals for controlling a humidifier and A/C contactor. With some care, you can get two 18ga wires into the existing terminals (two W1 for furnace+humidifier and two Y1 for furnace+AC), but it is not optimal. It is impossible to get the three required commons into the single spring terminal. I mounted an external terminal block to address the secondary connections. Moreover, having the ecojay intelligently control the humidifier (only engage while supply air is at proper temperature) would make the unit even that much better.Great bit of engineering at a great price and top quality performance.

Wanted to install smart thermostats (Ecobee 3 lite) and HVAC installers were too expensive
Our 3 zone heating system was about 22 years old, and all of the thermostats were pretty ancient. It was quite a task to simply change the temperature settings on the old touch screens. I wanted to upgrade to smart thermostats, and I saw a good price for EcoBee 3 Lite thermostats from my electricity provider, and decided to try installing them myself.I quickly realized that the EcoBee thermostats would not work on the current system configuration, that is, a master thermostat and the other two subservient. Also, two of the dampers were compatible with the thermostats, but the one associated with the master was not. I got my favorite HVAC people to replace the incompatible damper with one compatible with the thermostat. Then, the fun started. Before taking pulling out the wires from the old control panel, I made sure I knew what each wire was connected to...thermostat, damper, AC, blower. I began to realize that the color of the wires was not consistent, so I had to label each wire identifying the thermostat, damper, whatever, and the connectors in each.Next I took pictures of all the connections into the control panel.I spent a lot of time on the EcoJay web site to understand how my wires would be connected to the new EcoJay board. If I had any questions, the customer service people were able to help me, and gave me a feeling that I could count on them if I hit any snags.I used some 3-M double sided mounting tape to mount the EcoJay beside the old control panel and took one wire out of the old and into the new. Since the old thermostats used just a few wires whereas the new EcoBees used five, I happily discovered that the original installers had left extra wires to work with.I got all the expected wiring done in about an hour, and then spent more time checking the wiring diagrams that came with the EcoJay panel, and with the pictures I took earlier.I was then able to remove the old panel.Once I installed the three EcoBee thermostats, I was ready to turn on the power. Almost everything worked perfectly, especially the EcoJay and EcoBee components. The only problem I had was that the original installer had mis-wired the basement damper. We now have had the EcoJay running for more than a year, and I'm thrilled with the device. It was far less expensive than the panels the local HVAC people wanted to install, and I've gained an understanding of how the system works.I highly recommend the EcoJay if you want to do the installation yourself. It was easy, and as I stated above, the help I got from the EcoJay customer service people gave me confidence I could do it.

Great product, great Support
I got a SmartZone 4X years ago with my new zoned system and it has worked great. The unit comes with a clear installation guide full of pictures and diagrams. It would be difficult NOT to install correctly. Recently my heat stopped working. The board said my return air supply was 145 degrees and had hit the high-temp cutoff (which shuts off the heat) when in fact the inside air was about 67 degrees. I'm not an HVAC guy by any means, but I looked at the installation guide and was easily able to understand what all the lights meant and did a reset and then watched the system go through its paces and verified everything was working as expected other than the probe. I emailed the seller and he explained that I just needed to remove the probe from the board and it would revert to a non-zoned system with the primary thermostat controlling the heat and air. He then sent me a new probe free of charge with priority shipping. This is the second time I have dealt with the SmartZone support and they have been great each time. Kudos!

The push terminals are nice, and I really like seeing the supply air ...
I replaced an RVS multi-zone controller with this one. This unit is much more intuitive and gives a lot more feedback. The push terminals are nice, and I really like seeing the supply air temperature. I've had it for a while now, and no problems thus far.
