Loved it ... however ...
About 50 more pages than Volume One. Great! I like the size of the book and size of the strips. However, I do have a problem with the description in the Amazon ad: "reproduced entirely from original King Features press proofs." Under acknowledgments in the book, it reads that Michigan State University "gave us access to their collection of Johnny Hazard press proofs where were used as the source of this entire book." If they are using the original press proofs, then why do we only see half of Frank Robbins' signature on pages 16 and 17? And why isn't the date in a block in the first panels in pages 16, 17 and 18 like the rest of the strips? Check out the same dailies printed in the Pacific Comics Club in 1981 and you will see identical printings but with just a fraction more of strip at the bottom. I have in my collection the 1946 strips from a CA newspaper. They are smaller, measuring 7 7/16" in wideth compared to 9" in the book. However, they are the same height, giving 1/4" MORE strip than the book. For instance, in the 1-3-46 strip, you can see Fluff's waist line. And the copyright is in the 3rd panel. All strips that I have from 1946 are the same, giving more artwork at the bottom. Each newspaper would print the strip differently, adjusting it apparently to fit the space needed, thus cutting off the bottom and rearranging the copyright statement if need be. But if you had the original King Features proofs, you should see the entire strip like it appeared in this CA newspaper. Since the book does not make this claim (using King Features) and says they used MSU, Hermes may not be misleading us. Being a Haz fan and collector since 1954, I still have to give it 5 stars. I hope they continue to print more and at a faster pace. I would love to see the entire 33 years in print in my lifetime.

Better than the first book..
I also reviewed book one of Johnny Hazard..This volume is principally the same setup as the first one..Same size with 2 dailes per page but this time there are more pages(288)(YEAH)..Graphics quality is just as good as volume one and is comfortable to hold and read..The war is over and the story picks up where the last book left off(Johnny gets discharged and starts his own flight company and the new adventures begin)..The book covers 5 different story arcs between 11/9/45 to 8/16/47 in different locals with the chapters being better and more interesting than the war related ones...Johnny Hazard is one of my favorite comic characters and I look forward to the next daily installment as well as his Sunday strip coming out the end of the year(Hopefully sooner)...Thanks go to Hermis Press for reprinting Johnny Hazard and "Keep 'em coming HERMES"...

Expensive and small.
My only experience of reading Johnny Hazard until recently was an old Australian reprint comic. The story in that was quite good I thought, so I bought volume one of the Hermes Dailies reprints. That wasn't bad, but was quite small. Volume two was hard to find when I wanted to buy it, and it looked like it may be going out of print. So when I saw it offered by Amazon I bought it. The price was steep and the book was still small, hence the four stars. The stories do not seem to be as good as the old comic I have read so far. I think I will buy the colour Sundays when they come out and see what I think of them. The price so far looks steep. Will I keep buying them? I'll wait and see.

Still a bit disappointed
I received Volume 2 yesterday, and they kept the size of the book similar to the first Volume. To be honest I've got to say that the IDW issues of RIP KIRBY and AGENT CORRIGAN are superior to the Hermes Johnny Hazard issues. The IDW paper is matt which I think is better espelially when the strips are black/white.And of course the size of the IDW books is far better. Funny thing is that Hermes started previously the Buck Rogers bigger in 9"x12" and then made Haz in the smaller size 6x10. I think that Hermes is not in posession of real Master copies of the strip and in that case if they had made the print of the strip bigger it would've become blurry.Even in this volume I noticed that the quality / sharpness of the print varies from one day to the nother.Sometimes it's even difficult to read the date of the strip or the signature....not to talk of the copyright mark.Nevertheless I'm glad that the series continues even if it has some errors. I think this will be the last run for a complete release of the Johnny Hazard strips

Another excellant Chapter in the Johnny Hazard Story
Just got this, the second volume in Hermes' reprint of Johnny Hazard. Kudos. The paper is matte art stock, nice and heavy reproducing beautiful blacks. The dustjacket is nice and heavy and sports a very snappy cover design which is mirrored on the hardcover of the book. The book presents a short intro and five complete continuities. I have these stories from other publishers over the years, in different formats, and this book has the best, clear, sharp reproduction I've ever seen (and I've been buying books like this for over thirty years). The book's size is 6.25 x 10.25 inches and which for me is a perfect size for reading and carrying around. The strips themselves are nice, large, and easy to read. Let's not overlook the great stories and characters! Frank Robbins' art is simply marvelous and the stories read like a late 1949s studio B-movie! I can't wait for Volume Three and the Sundays. The date on the Sundays has been delayed again, maybe someone at Hermes can give us an idea when to expect that eagerly awaiting project.

enfin le tome 2 tant attendu des rarissimes dailies de Johnny Hazard, jamais publiés proprement. On attend avec impatience la réédition promise des Sunday Pages depuis 1944
