Works great with my 100-400mm lens
Nikon Z teleconverter 1.4 works great with my Nikon 100-400mm and Z8. It turns the lens into a 140-560mm lens with only 1 stop loss in aperture. Autofocus is fast and I can’t see any loss in Image Quality. It’s small and pocketable.I bought this TC to get me in the game of wildlife and birding. Everyone says that 600mm is minimum. This TC brings me close to that and I still have a lot of flexibility. Also, teleconverters can be used with only a few Nikon zoom lenses and telephoto lenses like the 450, 600 and 800mm. So check compatibility first before buying. My only criticism is it is pricey for what it is.

very sharp! get if you have a 180 to 600mm nikon lens!
i know teleconverter reduce sharpness by a little but to be honest i couldn't see the difference switching between having it and not having it. it works really well with the 180 to 600mm nikon lens so if you are looking for a cheap telephoto lens that does a good job. get this and the nikon 180 to 600mm. dont waste your time with the x2

Price
Works as advertised with Z8 and 180-600 5.6-6.3. No noticeable degradation. Cost is a bit on the high side.

Excellent teleconverter
Teleconverters seem to be a polarizing topic for photographers. Personally, I avoided teleconverters until I read the reviews for the Z teleconverters. I own both the 1.4x and the 2.0x Z teleconverters, and the 1.4x is good enough that I almost always leave it on my lens when I'm shooting wildlife, especially small birds. The 2.0x teleconverter is just ok, so I only use it when I don't have a better option.Teleconverters represent the art of compromise. They'll give you extra reach, but they'll also degrade your image (particularly contrast) and they'll reduce your exposure (by 1-stop in the case of the 1.4x). So the question is do you really need a teleconverter? If your Nikon Z has DX mode, then you're better off using DX mode (and/or modestly cropping in post) if that fills enough of the frame for your composition.Nikon has done a great job designing some of their Z lenses (I refer to these as their recommended lenses) to pair nicely with the 1.4x Z teleconverter. I don't hesitate to use the 1.4x Z teleconverter on my Z 400mm/f4.5 or my Z 70-200mm/f2.8 in addition to DX mode on my camera. With judicious sharpening in post, the image quality is reasonably close to the naked lens (when pixel peeping). As long as you're not making very large prints, you'd be hard pressed to pick out the teleconverter image from the naked lens.Based on my observations, the image quality is as follows:1) Naked lens, FX mode2) Naked lens, DX mode (or crop in post)3) Nikon recommended Z lens + Z teleconverter, FX mode4) Nikon recommended Z lens + Z teleconverter, DX modeKeep in mind that your ability to (further) crop in post starts to become more limited as you work your way down from option 1 to option 4 above. Nevertheless, I've gotten some really nice images with option 4 with mild/mod sharpening and a modest crop in post.If you need more reach than option 2 can give you, definitely give the Z 1.4x teleconverter a try. I've been very pleased with it.
