Jonah Jones zoomed to popularity in the late 50s. He found a successful formula and used it to brighten the hit charts with a succession of bouncy albums on Capitol Records. His quartet was one of the three newcomers in the Top 10 wide variety of small groups listed in the favorite Instrumental Billboard lists in 1958. The Jonah Jones Quartet really sounds at home with Meredith Willsons great music from the hit show The Unsinkable Molly Brown, and they prove themselves once again, with every note a high-proof delight to hear. On Jazz Bonus, Jones glistening trumpet gets a great new setting buoyed by an excellent rhythm section with twin guitars and a seemingly jet-propelled electronic organ. The rich and swinging tonal blend these instruments create is fabulous to hear.

He Ain't Down Yet
I grew up loving jazz and instrumental covers of shows - I had this LP when I was fourteen and loved it then and love it now. I wish the labels would dig deep and give up all the other wonderful covers of these shows - Molly Brown had three or four of them. I have no idea if this CD was actually licensed from Capitol or is just one of those gray area European fifty-year rule things - it sounds decent, if unexceptional. The bonus tracks are nice but not of much interest to me personally. But if you're a fan of this kind of thing, give this a try - the score is wonderful and Mr. Jones does it up fine.

Jonah Jones The Unsickable...
De la belle musique de jazz par un trompettiste bien oublié et pourtant excellent. Ce disque correspond à son renouveau et à ses succès commerciaux des années 50.On peut préférer son passage chez Cab Calloway.
