Modifications needed
This pump came up as a replacement for my 98 Land Rover Discovery. The size was correct however I did have to make some modifications to it in order for it to fit correctly. At the bottom of the pump there are two plastic 'tabs' that extend beyond the bottom of the pump. The original that came out of my Disco did not have these tabs and thus the pump would not seat properly so I had to cut them off. Secondly, the '+' and '-' male connectors on the pump are made for a much more narrow female connector so I had to cut off half of the width of the female connector in order for it to fit tightly and not short against the other connector. Finally, the bag that connects to the bottom of the pump on my original was about 3" or so shorter, whereas this pumps' bag had to be folded on both ends in order for it to fit. The cutting off of the tabs most certainly voided the warranty but I'm fine with that provided that it will last more than 12 months. I didn't mind making the modifications mentioned but if you are not too much of a DIY'r than you may find yourself a bit frustrated. Now, I bought this car used with 115,000 miles on it so I suppose it is possible that the entire assembly and pump may have been replaced with one that wasn't an exact replacement but based on how it looked and the fact that it died leads me to believe otherwise, not to mention that my subsequent searches of these pumps have garnered similar complaints. Again, as long as it works than I really don't care about the modifications that I had to make but honestly if I didn't secure those '+' and '-' connectors that I had to cut tight enough than that car explosion on youtube is probably me and my connectors shorting in the gas tank...
