Hi, thank you for your question! :-) As you know, there are two kinds of iron that exist in both food and supplements - heme & non-heme. Heme iron is from animal sources, and non-heme iron comes from plant sources or synthetic iron salts. Heme iron is the most bioavailable from, because our bodies are able to absorb heme in its natural form. When working to improve iron levels, consuming meat (especially red meat) is a great way to incorporate heme iron into your diet. The heme iron in these cuts of meat is actually held within the hemoglobin molecules still present after cooking. So essentially, you're consuming the meat protein to get access to the hemoglobin (heme iron containing molecule) within. The challenge is, the amount of heme iron in these foods is relatively low - for example: 1 serving of beef contains 2.6 mg heme iron, and 1 serving of chicken contains .9 mg heme iron. So you would need to eat LARGE quantities of meat to consume the iron contained in Iron Repair (20 mg) - which isn't a great idea. ;-) Iron Repair includes heme iron as 'heme iron polypeptide' - which is ultra filtered & hydrolyzed bovine hemoglobin powder. Heme iron polypeptide simply extracts the iron containing molecules, so you don't have to consume large quantities of meat protein. Iron Repair provides 20 mg of heme iron, along with methylated B12 & folate to support healthy iron levels. What makes the ingredients in Iron Repair different from other supplements?

Thank you for asking this question! There are two kinds of iron that exist in both food and supplements - heme & non-heme iron. In our diets, heme is found in meat and non-heme iron is found in plants. Traditional iron supplements contain non-heme iron which has a low absorption rate and high risk of side effects. Iron Repair contains natural heme iron, which has a 10x better absorption rate than non-heme iron. Why is there such a difference in the absorption between heme & non-heme? Unfortunately, iron is a pretty tricky nutrient. Raising your iron levels isn’t as simple as “eat more iron - feel better”. The iron content on the label is NOT the amount of iron your body absorbs. There are a number of factors that influence how well your body does, or does not, absorb iron. Our bodies often absorb only a small fraction of the iron we consume. FACTORS THAT BLOCK OR INHIBIT NON-HEME ABSORPTION: Medications: Non-heme iron requires an acidic environment for optimal absorption. Medications that reduce the amount of acid in the stomach such as antacids or proton pump inhibitors can lead to low non-heme iron absorption. Examples: Tums, Prevacid, Nexium, Omeprazole. Phytates and Fiber: Phytate compounds have a significant effect on the amount of non-heme iron that is absorbed, and can reduce non-heme absorption by 50-65%. Examples: Almonds, walnuts, peas, soy, rice, cereal, whole grains, beans, lentils, wheat bran. Oxalates: Naturally-occurring food chemicals found in numerous food sources, and may inhibit the body’s iron absorption by combining with non-heme iron to form a compound called iron oxide. Examples: Spinach, kale, potatoes, yams, dark chocolate, raspberries, beets, nuts & seeds, oregano, basil, parsley. Calcium: (like iron) is an essential mineral, which means the body must get this nutrient from diet. As a mineral, calcium competes for the same absorption sites as iron. Examples: Milk, cheese, yogurt, broccoli, kale, almonds, collard greens, rhubarb, tofu. Tannins and polyphenols: Biological compounds that can bind with iron, therefore making non-heme iron insoluble. Of the polyphenols, cocoa (chocolate) and tea demonstrates the most powerful iron absorption-inhibiting capabilities, in some cases up to 90%. Coffee is high in tannin and chlorogenic acid; one cup of coffee can inhibit non-heme iron absorption by as much as 60%. Examples: Coffee, tea, chocolate, blackberries, blueberries, tomatoes, herbs, spinach, broccoli, blackberries. Low stomach acid: Non-heme iron requires an acidic environment for optimal absorption, so low stomach acidity can greatly decrease the amount of iron absorbed in your stomach. Elderly individuals or bariatric patients often have less acidic stomachs. Frequent use of antacids or PPIs (proton pump inhibitors) can affect your stomach’s iron absorption. Eggs: Contain phosphoprotein, a compound with iron-binding capacity that can impair non-heme iron absorption. Studies have shown that one hardboiled egg can reduce the absorption of iron in a meal by as much as 28%. WHAT FACTORS CAN BLOCK OR INHIBIT HEME ABSORPTION? Heme iron is absorbed through an entirely different intestinal pathway than non-heme iron, so heme is more bioavailable than non-heme, and is not significantly affected by dietary influences. Calcium is the only dietary factor considered to affect both heme and non-heme absorption. While the effect of calcium is not as significant on heme absorption, it is still wise to be aware that it can play a role in absorption and plan your meals accordingly. Very Good Product

My mother's Doctor suggested I purchase this Iron Supplement for her. My mother's blood test showed that she was anemic, with low iron. Because of her age, he did not want her to receive Iron treatments, which can take an hour or more to administer. She took the suppliment for three months. When test were taken again, her iron levels were way up and her anemia was very slight. She continues to use this product with wonderful results.

Improved my symptoms so much first dose

This has helped me so much. I bought an inexpensive test on Amazon for my iron and it tested really low. I joined the iron deficient group on line and this is what everyone recommended. I felt better after my first dose. I love that it OSS a supplement verses straight iron. So far it is the best thing I have tried. I will be buying more.

It actually works

It works. I go through many versions to find good vitamins. This was my 30th try before I found a company who's iron vitamin actually absorbs. I have crones disease and other serious illness so anemia is a huge issue. I feel less groggy and about 10% more energy. It does absorb well with no cramps or bleeding.

It works!!!

I was taking this for a month when out of nowhere, found an online article about it being a junk product that will never produce results. I bought it without ever reading reviews on Amazon because i was a member of Iron Protocol group on the best know social media site. Instantly i came here to read reviews and some very mentioning brown rice fillers and how it made them sick, so i stopped taking it for a week out of fear it will make me sick too. My husband insisted that i go check my iron and Ferritin levels again, expecting i will probably need an iron infusion, since my Ferritin in the end of May 2024 was 8.6 and Iron was at 44. I got retested On August 14th of 2024 to my doctor's protest, and i really had to insist because he likes to do blood work only twice a year. My Ferritin jumped to 23 and Iron is at 60. My iron saturation went to 18% , and it was always hovering around 10%. I have to mention that my Ferritin level sits around 8 since 2017, same goes for my Iron, which has been low since 2017, along with my MCV and MCH. Those went up, not by much, but they are still very low. To sum up, I am still taking these, and i also bought the type without the addition of Vit B and Folate, but I think I prefer these. I have no stomach pain, and no acid, even though I suffer from acid reflux and hiatal hernia. They do make me constipated and I will get nausea if I take them on an empty stomach. Also, i would advise against Iron protocol from the above-mentioned group, i left that group because some pieces of advice were bordering on crazy. I take one pill a day, but on some days I can handle 2. Please do not do those body weight calculations and take 8-9 pills a day. That can not possibly be good for you!

Great Iron Supplement

As someone who suffered with IDA the constant fatigue getting no where with the different iron vitamins upsetting my stomach or just not getting my levels where I wanted them to be. This brand has helped tremendously and no side effects. Will definitely be ordering again
