James KaiserYosemite: The Complete Guide: Yosemite National Park (Color Travel Guide)

Decent albeit brief summary
A good highlight of what to expect, but the trail summaries are very brief and lacking a lot of first hand experience insight. An overall map or seasonal summary that clearly highlights the sections of Yosemite that are functionally closed outside of the Summer months would be helpful for those who don’t want join the tourist herds.

OK, but not great.
This book has fabulous pictures and very good descriptions of each area. HOWEVER, it does not provide a good overview of where each area is in relation to each other OR how to tour the park in two or three days (or however long you have). It doesn’t give approximate times of travel from one area to another making it very difficult to judge how much you can see in a day. It does NOT have a map of the entire park. I found it very frustrating to get to Yosemite and not have a clear plan for touring. Wish I’d gotten a different book! If you’re going there to hike for a month buy this book.

GREAT Guide!
I always dreamed of Yosemite, imagining heaven on earth. This guide prepared me for its magnificence. The history pieces were so well done. I felt a relationship with this incredible place instantly. So much to see. Take your time. You can always come back. (Get the annual pass!)

James Kaiser is the Anthony Bourdain of National Parks!
Most travel guides are dry and boring, but James is gifted with a clever prose which makes this book not only informative but entertaining as well! Paired with beautiful and unique photography, this book is great to read before, during and even after your trip. You will come away having learned so much, in the most enjoyable way possible. It's like having a witty, knowledgable friend show you around the park. I wish more travel guides were this captivating!
