All I can tell you is that the one time I was forced to use it to stop an aggressive dog who was charging at me and my pup who was on leash, the dog stopped dead in his tracks. Yes! The sound is loud, but normally only needs to be used for a few seconds. As a bonus, it can be heard from a distance making it a great distress alarm, signal to others in a group, or loud bike horn for passing cars.

How to replace battery

Remove 2 screws at the bottom by the clip, then remove the cover. Now you have access to the batteries to remove them.
