Interesting there is a note saying lithium are NOT recommended so I would not use those
First of all let me say this is the bargain in speedlights. It recycles fast because it takes 4 AA batteries, either alkaline or rechargeable. Interesting there is a note saying lithium are NOT recommended so I would not use those. It tilts and zooms really well. Powerful enough for bounce and outside fill.It communicates perfectly with my Nikon D5000 when mounted on the shoe. As I zoom my lens, the flash knows it and adjusts accordingly. It adjusts to all my Nikon options perfectly. I have not seen any issues with that at any setting or option.Downsides:Its heavy. With 4 AA it weighs nearly as much as my camera. But I suspect no more than other speedlights in this range. Its not really for amateurs although amateurs would be perfectly at ease with it. The on camera flash is no slouch but this one does give huge range and power for outside fills. If you understand and need that, this is a good choice. If you are going to be taking pro/am shots at a wedding or senior photos this one is awesome. It compares in power and features to Nikon's own speedlights at 5 times the cost. If you are a pro/am or serious amateur looking for a real speedlight this is a great choice. The price is great and a bargain. I highly recommend it.

Disappointing on my Nikon D810
Just a word of warning, this flash was not recognized by my Nikon D810. It operated in manual mode only. That may be due to unit variation; one flash and one camera is not an exhaustive test, but I returned the flash.

Just ok, professionals should just spend the extra bucks and get an SB-700 instead
Purchased 2 of these. Used as an off camera flash with D700 along with Yongnuo YN-622N wireless trigger. Inconsistent power output. Used with eneloop batteries, sometime extreme overexposure and also underexposed shots even when set at manual. Flimsy battery compartment cover; mine already broke off after just a few months of use. Currently I have to wrap a tight rubber band around it to keep the cover from falling off. I take good care of my equipment and this still broke. It's a nice cheapo solution if you don't have the bucks for the Nikon equivalent. Not sure if my warranty is still good, but I'll pony up and by a couple of sb-700 s instead. I do a couple of weddings a month and cannot afford to have inconsistent results and equipment breaking during light use.

Not Compatable with D5300
This Flash will not do TTL on a Nikon d5300 I am still giving it 3 stars because it is my understanding that this is not yongnuo's fault. Apparently, Nikon blocked compatibility on this model for aftermarket flash TTL. To be fair the 5300 is not listed on its spec sheet but i figured this was because it was an old sheet. I guess not. However, the flash will do manual but I returned it because that is not what I was looking for. If anyone knows how to make it work or any other aftermarket flash that will do ttl on a d5300 I will be forever thankful.Outside of my issue the other aspects of the flash were nice. Build quality was great for the price. It comes with a carrying bag. The only issue is that it does not pivot in both directions so you can not bounce flash over both shoulders it only pivots one way (sorry I cant remember).

arrived quickly and shot with over 400 pics using TTL on Nikon D7000 and it worked great. This is good for amateur use as there
Can't beat this unit for the price, arrived quickly and shot with over 400 pics using TTL on Nikon D7000 and it worked great. This is good for amateur use as there are drawbacks... less power than higher end models, recharge cycle is quick, but not good enough for slow continuous shooting mode. But if you're looking for that type of use, you won't be paying such a low price for a quality product. Highly recommend this unit for enthusiast use! Off camera slave mode worked great as well!

Glad I bought it
Great flash so far. I got a lot of really good photos from a recent indoor party. Sometimes the flash was out of sync so not every photo was perfect, but I expected that when I made the purchase. If you are making serious money taking serious photos you probably know whether you should use a flash like this or not.

Batteries compartment brakes easily
This is the second flash I have purchased from this brand for my Nikon. Both broke at the same place: battery compartment. Making it impossible to use. Stay away. Buy the Nikon flash and save yourself some headaches

Five Stars
Never had any problems with it. I haven't used other higher quality flashes to compare it to, though.
