The splendid Emden
Excellent books with short histories and superb artwork of the subject ship. Individual books have additional material such as scale drawings and some have 3D content (as does this particular edition) complete with glasses for viewing them. Superb for both content artwork and general appearance, these books bring the subject vehicle back to life in all their magnificent detail. Great for modeling, general information or simple viewing. Very pleased with the product and content.

Not the series' best...
This is the 37th book in Kagero's generally excellent Super Drawings in 3D series. Like others in the series it is an 8-1/4" x 11-3/4"stapled card cover. There are 76 interior pages although Kagero counts the card covers in the page numbering for reasons that remain obscure. The unbound foldouts with conventional line drawings seem to have been dropped from this series. the only unbound enclosure are the 3D classes for the 3D anaglyphs.Pre-WWII ships are always welcome. However, for whatever reason, this book is not quite up to the standards of others in the series. The text was extremely brief, just a few paragraphs devoted to the service history spread over two pages and a data table. The drawings proper cover 59 pages but there were a few places where they didn't ring true to me. For example both the fore and after rangefinders are completely devoid of any eyepieces leaving the reader to wonder how they were used. I also had a problem with the depiction of the fore 5.2 cm mountings. The amount of space seems improbably small to work the gun. The after 5.2 cm mountings were even worse. They looked like they are fixed firing directly aft with no obvious way to train the gun. And the manner the davits were depicted connected to the boats did not seem very robust. I got the impression the artist was "winging" it in a few places. There are also a few things that were missing. There are no hints of torpedo tubes in the views of the hull. These may have been removed at some point but that should have been mentioned. And then there are the woefully inadequate captions that leave the reader wondering about a few items. There are two fixtures on the open bridge, one on each side at the rear, with three hand wheels each. What are they? Telegraphs of some sort? And it would have been nice to have a closeup of the crest that appears on both sides of the bow. There are 16 pages of 3D anaglyphs. I have very little use for these but I understand that others like them. The book can be recommended but either the author skimped on the research or perhaps the relevant source material has not survived.

SMS EMDEN
I'm using the book as a reference for a model along with a pile of other documents including an old set of blueprints. Rigging detail and wireless detail shown in the book will be most useful. Great Emden renderings. I am wondering what data base was used to create the detail. The deck was not all wood as shown, rather red or red brown type of linoleum. Never heard of it before but there is much corroboration on the point. Are there other errors? The 3D images are not useful to me as a modeling reference. Still, interesting.

Pretty book but should have been researched much better
Nice pictures and a fun book to look at. It is Inaccurate in almost all of its art work. For example the war time paint scheme Is wrong only the Emdens sister ship SMS Dresden was painted in a single tone of gray. The Emden was painted in Imperial German Paint scheme No.9. Basically the hull below the waterline was red brown a line of anthracite gray marked the water line. From the water line up to the main deck or weather deck was dark gray. From the main deck to the tops of the masts was silver gray. The top of the smokestacks and the middle of the aft mast was jet blackShe was famous for having lanolin quarterdecks not wood planking. This was said to be a chocolate brown or red brown in color with polished brass edging.Franz Joseph Prinz von Hohenzollern-Emden was the second torpedo officer on the Emden. The Russian protected cruiser Zhemchug was sunk using two Torpedoes and deck guns. The drawings show deck guns albeit the gun shields are some what undersized but NO TORPEDO TUBES OR DOORSBottom line, an attractive book but extremely poorly researched. Of all world war one ships this one should have been given the dignity of proper research and not just phoning it in.As always Amazon shipped fast and packed the item well

Don't waste your money
This is a very very basic book on the emden. There are no details as to what anything is, the 3D pictures are stupid and this whole book is a waste of money.

Great artwork, but blatant inaccuracies
As usual with these books, the artwork is stunning. Worth 2 stars. Other than that...In order to use the 3D drawings you need special glasses. Not provided. -1 star.Inaccurate paint scheme. Since the 1890s the German Navy had used a two-tone paint scheme, dunkelgrau 51 on hull, hellgrau 50 upperworks. This portrays the ship all medium gray. -1 star.Inaccurate decks. SMS Emden had mostly linoleum decks held down by brass strips. I was hoping to see an accurate portrayal of those strips. NO linoleum, the book shows the decks as all wood! -1 star. The paint and decks were not trivial, 15 minutes of research would have informed the artists, but they got it wrong. Can I trust them on anything? So 2 stars for the pretty artwork, but that's all I can compliment them on.

Incrociatore leggero Emden
Buon libro di un incrociatore leggero poco noto. Buoni i dettagli raffigurati.

Wieder einmal beeindruckende Detailwiedergabe

I purchased this for a modelling project. 2 faults ...
I purchased this for a modelling project.2 faults I spotted-2 fwd under water torpedo tubes are missing & I have read in a couple of other publications that the fwd & after decks where covered in some sort of redy-brown linoleum.I know this sounds abit nit picking this was not acheap publication and it would make one wonder what else is missing.
