Probably the best EL34 tube for the Willsenton R8 Amplifier
I have tried a number of tubes for my new production Willsenton R8 tube amplifier, including the TOTL expensive Psvane EL34PH, Tung-Sol EL34B, Electro Harmonix 6CA7 and EL34 tubes. The Mullard EL34 has taken over the number one spot of all those tubes. It sounds more musical with clarity and focus. The Tung-Sol EL34B is a close second with a smidgen better clarity and detail but the Mullard is more musical.

Mullard EL34 Power Vacuum Tube (Matched Quad)
I switched out the stock KT88 tubes in my Willsenton R8 (revised) integrated amp with these and I'm very happy with them. I was surprised that I could tell a difference for the better right off the bat even before an extended burn in. Having less power is not a problem with my Zu Audio DW6 speakers which can run just fine with my 10 wpc EL84 amp. The added benefit of the EL34 tubes is the lowered temperature that is really noticeable. At this point I have about 250 hours on them and they sound better every time I turn them on. I'm fairly new to tubes and these are my first EL34s so I don't know how they compare to other brands, but so far I am very pleased with them.

I replaced the factory KT88s that my Wiisenton r8 had.
The Mullards smoothed the mids without taking away detail. The top end became clearer without becoming too harsh like they seemed with the KT88s. I'm very happy with the change in sound the Mullards brought to my system.

A nice matched quad of EL34 tubes
Mine arrived safe and sound. They all had the same 24 04 code on them so they’re new and matched. They appear to work fine as I’m burning them in. The sound profile is different than the KT88s I replaced. Less sizzle up top and less deep bass emphasis. Definitely more midrange forward with my Klipsch Cornwall speakers so I need to see if these calm down with burn in. I managed to listen for about 8 hours today to get the process started. I think I’d have been happier buying new KT88 but wanted to try EL34. I’m using them in a Willsenton R8 amplifier.
