A gift to lovers of cinema
This sensational box containing 6 films from around the world is one like no other. Pixote is the star of the show. It was made by Hector Babenco who went on to make films in Hollywood. I saw this at my local cinematheque 20 years ago or so and never forgot it. I guess one would call it a "gritty" film; and this is its strength. The film stars non-professional actors who are utterly compelling. Like Pixote, the remaining films, all just as magnetic, take you back in time and around the world to places you've never been; they introduce you to people you'll never know. They are exciting, engaging and visually poetic. These films, all beautifully restored (as mucha as possible), will excite film lovers who are looking good to discover something new, that's old. Scorsese's world Cinema Project #3 is a real gift to lovers of world cinema. I very much look forward to the next instalment.
