Good tire but installation is a pain
I decided to upgrade my rims this year, I had an old set of Mavic clinchers that were like tanks, these things went over many a pothole and I'd get a pinch flat before I'd bend the rims. So I got a pair of Ultegra tubeless rims and went searching for a tire, my preference is for Italian tires, there's just something about them that makes for a sensuous ride but my favs don't have a tubeless version so I got the Hutchinsons. Now I'm pretty good bike mechanic and do close to 100% of the maintenance on my ride so figured how hard could it be to install these on the rims. Lots of youtube videos out there and they all pop these on in under 3 minutes, it took me 6 hours. Like clinchers that last 3 inches to get them up and over the rim is a pain but multiply it by 4 that's how much of a pain it is. Once on I put in the sealer, soaped the rims and started pumping...nothing...the whole thing was leaking like a sieve. So I have a small compressor that gets up to about 50psi and used that, well the soap bubbles showed that about 50% of the rim was leaking so I started chasing down the leaks by putting my palm on the area until the tire seated on the rim, this went on for about 20 minutes and I wasn't any further along than when I started. These tires are so stiff right out of the box that I thought maybe if I let the rim sit in the sun for awhile that would soften them up so after an hour I came back and sure enough they were more pliable. The other benefit was that the stans was starting to get tacky and grab the rim, back to the compressor. I was able to get the leaks down to about 20% but couldn't get beyond that so back to the deck to warm up, the second time it actually started to hold some air. I was able to get the compressor to max out at it's rating but once I took it off the tire would deflate, I kept at it chasing the bubbles around the rim when suddenly I heard a thunk and the bead finally seated on the rim. I immediately put my hand pump on to bring it up to pressure and from 50-100psi you could hear the bead starting to seal and it held pressure, like I said both tires took me a good 6 hours from start to finish. So how do they ride, not bad, not as nice as the Italians, it's a little cruder but I'm still messing with inflation so maybe as I back down it will improve. All in all however it's a major upgrade, the combo is definitely an improvement and they hold air well thankfully because if I ever would get a flat on the road there's now way I can see to repair it.

Good tubeless solution for general training and riding.
I mounted these tires on Shimano 6800 wheels. The included Shimano valves do not have removable cores so I used 44 mm Stan's valves instead although I used the hardware (rubber and metal washers and offset spacer for the rear wheel) that came with the shimano valves. I did not have the trouble getting these tires on the rims that others have said they had. I bought a pair of rubber-coated work gloves at Home Depot for $5.00 which allowed me to force the last few inches of the tire bead onto the wheel without fear of taking some skin off of the palm of my hands. To get the tires to seal, I applied a light coat of soapy water on the tire beads and made sure that the tire bead was firmly seated on either side of the valves (not everywhere else on the wheel). I then drove the valve down into the valve hole with firm pressure applied on the tire over the valve. After tightening the valve nuts, I was then able to inflate the tires with a floor pump. I let the tires set overnight (they did not lose any pressure) and then injected 1 oz of stan's into each wheel before re-inflating. I have been riding the wheels with 85/95 lbs of pressure in the front and rear wheels. After 500 miles on trashy and bumpy roads, I have had no flats. I have also ridden over wet roads filled with cinders left by road crews for snowy roads. The lower pressure gives a very nice ride! The tires appear to have little wear after the 500 miles. The tires seem to lose about 10 lbs of pressure over the course of a week. Next up will be to go tubeless on some nice racing wheels.

So far so good
I installed these tires on 2 wheelsets. the first was an ultegra tubeless ready; the tire as tight, i needed to use a quick stik to get them on, and it sealed up well. I only have about 200-250 miles on this set, but I am confident this is a solid wheelset and I have ridden it on some pretty steep downhills.second I did a conversion on a vuelta corsa lite wheelset. tires were hard to get on again - and harder to get off, but I made it. didn't seal up with just tape, but did after I used 2oz Stan's sealant in each wheel. I want to re-do the tape on one wheel, probably early next spring- that was my bad when taping it. I have grown very confident in this wheelset/tire combo also; maybe 150-200 miles so far, I haven't ridden down the steepest hills around yet, but that's just been my ride schedule, not because I don't trust the Stan's conversion.the tires: they hold air well, I can ride them 3-4 days in a row without hitting the pump. if I inflate them to the recommended max for my weight (105psi) they fell like any other tire to me. if I knock that down a bit (95-100), they do start feeling softer/more supple - a lot more comfortable.I cant speak to longevity yet -but overall if you're thinking about going tubeless with a 'ready' wheelset or a conversion, I would recommend it.

Is there a bad lot of Fusion 3's in the wild?
I have used tubeless tires on my Campagnolo Zonda wheelset for about 4 years on a number of bikes and Fusion 3 have been my tire of choice. Last two purchases of Fusion 3 tires from Amazon have had very short service life compared to my longer term experience. I have had a side wall puncture that would not seal (and I think was result of mfg defect) and have had a tires carbon bead fail (first time ever) after 200 km of use.
