Inspiring and Insightful
Each book Jean has written gives the reader a deeper insight into the principles of the 5 Elements. The better we can all understand the patterns of nature the more likely we are able to accept one another and love ourselves! Jean brings the 5 Elements to life in a way that is informative and digestible. In this book, Jean gives practical and subtle ways for each of us to begin the practice of creating balance in our lives. The quiz in the beginning starts the process for deepening an understanding of what elements are showing up in our lives and the practices at the end of the book are empowering. The book clearly explains the 5 Elements and how they are part of our lives. IF you are interested in better understanding yourself and those you love this is a book you must read. I also highly recommend reading all of Jean's books because each book will deepen your appreciation for the patterns of nature and your unique energetic design!

Not Terrible. Has Some Annoyances.
I am neither a lover nor a hater of Jean Haner. I always get some take-aways from her writing, but am not 100% a believer either. The elements test and some of the insights on personalities, as well as ways to bring more balance to areas of one's life, resonated for me. At least to a degree. Since the reviews here so far are all very favorable, I'm going to go ahead and point out some things that were, frankly, annoying about the book. But, hey, I'm a "metal," so you expected that, right?1) Misuse of the word "science." A metaphysical or energetic system can be wonderful and healing in its own context. That does not make it "science." There is zero need to mix unrelated terms unless you are actively trying to muddy the waters. Yeah, you see the bad elements pun there....2) Cut-and-paste. The author kept copying and pasting the same disclaimers. Thank you, got it the first time.3) And perhaps most grating: with the exception of the more detailed story at the very end, the client example stories were incredibly short and trite, written in that same style found in self-help books dating back to the 80s. You know, the sort of books with inspirational anecdotes that all sound like this: "Belinda had a vaulting pole stuck up her nose and couldn't get a date. She applied my technique and has now been seeing someone for five months!" Such twee success stories are frequently peppered throughout this book. I found them distracting, but you could go ahead and turn them into a drinking game if you want.

Well written, informative and practical guide for balancing the five-elements
I am quite intrigued about Chinese medicine. Over the last 10 years I gone through a few treatments of Acupuncture for injuries and pain I have had in my elbows and my back. I found that the treatments not only helped me with those specific ailments but also with bringing the body back into balance, supporting me not only physically but at an emotional level as well.Whilst this book is not about acupuncture it is still about the spiritual teachings of Chinese medicine and how to bring your body to balance at an Unconscious Energetic Level. I am fascinated with how Chinese medicine looks at the body-mind combining both psychological and spiritual dimensions of human experienceChinese medicine is personalized medicine, not a one-pill-fits-all kind of care like much of Western medicine is. According to Jean, ancient Chinese scientists studied plants and the cycle of life and noticed a rhythm of 5 different stages in the cycle where the energy has distinct qualities - They refer to these as Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal. This book does a great job or explaining this philosophy in easy to understand language. It also has some questionnaires per element that help you determine your personal five-element patterns. Now I have to say, I am not always a fan of questionnaires and in this case answering the questions for each, I saw that I could relate to all areas. The idea with the questionnaires is to help identify the patterns and therefore allow you to to identify what remedies to work on for the imbalance. I think it is a useful approach to get a good sense of where an issue may be and what can be done about it.Part 2 of the book talks through each element in great detail of common symptoms including health issues. For each element there is a separate chapter with simple remedies to help with this as well. The approach to the remedies can be done in different ways due to the how the elements relate to each other. Jean does a beautiful job of explaining this and it is reassuring to think that no matter which approach you take, it will always benefit,Part 3 is one of my favourite parts of the book, it shows a 5-week life reboot system if you weren't sure which element to focus on or if you just felt stuck overall in life. This 5-week plan is to do a reboot and restart the ways of life and I really liked this approach. It also means that I can do this together with my spouse without having to worry about having to do different things to remedy individual elements. This plan is comprehensive which outlines steps that can be taken, what not to do and 10 things to do, summing up with an essential choice for the week. What's really good is that the steps are all feasible and seem like great fun to do as well.I really liked the book and it has really helped me understand the five-element philosophy. It is well explained and most importantly helps you identify areas of imbalance and a clear plan to bring back this balance. I am looking forward to trying out the remedies and the 5-week life reboot.

Interesting
I really enjoyed this book and read it quite quickly. It was interesting to learn more about the Five-Element theory in relation to emotional and physical health. I loved it so much I bought a copy for my friend as I knew she would like it but that I would want to keep using mine to refer back to. Highly recommend for anyone exploring TCM, acupuncture, energy work or healing.
