Not an easy instal, don’t like how it looks, but it’s sturdy!!
** update- we’ve had these gates for a year now and they are the only gates my 2 yo toddlers have not broken or pulled down! Definitely the best gate option for stairs especially. I feel very safe when we are playing upstairs and this is closed at the top of the stairwell.I agree with other reviews here that this gate is not easy to install. We also needed to clear baseboards so we bought the expanders but they are cheaply made and quite expensive, so we returned those and got some extra pieces of trim cut so we could install the gate flush w our baseboards. I don’t particularly like the way the gate looks, and I hope the plastic piece that the gate latches onto doesn’t break when my kids hang on it... it seems pretty sturdy though.

Wish it made less noise
We bought this before our daughter was born because we have a small dog that can fit through the bars of most normal gates. We wanted something that we could operate with 1 hand since we would be carrying a baby. This works great to keep our dog downstairs, and looks pretty nice too. Installing was a little tricky, but this would probably be the case with most gates because of how are staircase is. The one thing about this product that has made me consider getting rid of it and buying a new one is the NOISE!! Im not sure if there is a solution to this. We have figured out a way to reduce the noise so it doesnt wake our infant, but it requires 2 hands which kind of defeats the purpose. Otherwise the gate it pretty nice. I think the fact that it's a little pricier than other options is what bums me out the most, considering it make so much noise. If it didnt make the loud baby waking noise I could give it a 5star rating.

Zero Instructions
These look wonderful in person. I bought them because a friend had them installed. I received them and they come with zero instructions and all of the videos online have only music rather than actual instructions. After attempting to figure it out for two hours, I realized that the banister installation kit that Amazon recommends come with it and that I purchased only works for one side of the gate but you need a different one for the other side. A recommendation to the company would be to actually print instructions and sell the right accessories with the product.

Easy to install-Easy to use
I really did not want to install a baby gate at the bottom of my stairs, but my baby is a climber! The Assure gate is really nice because it retracts when not in use. So instead of having some clunky gate swing back and forth, mine simply pulls out when needed and retracts when it's not. This is great because it looks a lot nicer and its out of the way when I do not need it. Another thing that bugs me about most gates is that there is a bar across the bottoms that you can trip on, mine does not have that. The assure was plenty wide at 40" for my stairway. It was easy to install... hubby got it right the very first try. It did take me a couple of tries to get used to opening and closing the gate, but no problem. No question best for my needs.I am happy with it and would recommend it to my friends.

Poorly designed Baby Gate
I purchased this gate because I wanted a white baby gate. However, it was difficult to close as you have to match a long metal hook into the other hood while holding a button on the left side. If you are holding a baby just forget it. I purchased this gate in September but it did not get installed until Thanksgiving. The unit broke with the screws coming out of the bottom within 2 weeks of being installed and it is not useless. I would return it if I could, it was a waste of money. I purchased another black baby gate which installs easier and works well.

Looks great but hard to install
Hard to install The main half that contains the gate attached easily to the banister, although in order to attach the top onto the flat part of the banister, we had to raise it a couple inches off the floor. It creates a gap at the bottom but I think it will be fine, small enough that baby couldn’t get through. We had to add a piece of wood to the hook side so it is flush with the baseboard. Last complication was the spring recoil had to be “reset” or it wouldn’t retract the gate in. To do this, we twisted and wound up the pole while the gate was retracted in and then mounted it while not letting the roll untwist. All in all it took about 90-min to install.

Make sure you consider moulding when planning your installation
It's expensive, but you definitely get your money's worth. We've only had it for a month or so, but we're pleased. It's sturdy and well made. You absolutely have to buy spacers or the separately sold wall installation kit if you want to install it in a location where there's trim or moulding. I went the cheap route and used 3/4" spacers and longer screws I got for a few dollars at the hardware store.

Not bad
Not a bad retractable, but I don’t like the long glider the 2 point glider is easier to use but will love out the use for it
