A radio with ALOT of features and such crisp sound
I originally purchased a PLZ 901-3 radio from here. For a sub 90.00 car stereo it packs a big punch. Lots of basic features, but it didn't play CDs, its loudness was crap just all muddy when you turn it on. The EQ on it was 16 bands but it dint seem to adjust or sound right for the frequencies you adjust. It also did not have Sirius XM ready. Sadly I live in a high desert and radio stations only work in the cities so satellite was important. I thought about just Bluetooth my XM app into the radio and that worked well but wow does it use a lot of bandwidth. So I decided to buy a better radio. I chose the Pioneer AVH-X4800BS. Yes I knew it was discontinued but everyone still had stock on it. So it arrived and I knew just by looking at the box it was a big stereo. Well that was an understatement. I bought a new kit and harness and pulled the stereo out of my 95 Chevy C/K 2500 pickup. grabbing the stereo out of the box its huge. I don mean width I mean depth. Massive heat sinks on it with recessed area for protect your connections. I wired it up and turned it on worked instantly. So I started to put it back into my dash. Well this is where the difference of the PLZ size and Pioneer was huge. Matter in fact so huge I had to cut out a huge section of the dash to make it fit. I had to be really careful as laying directly behind the stereo is the whole wiring harness for the truck. Cutting those wires would be a game ender for sure. After two hours with my die grinder and brute force. It fit. I plugged in my Sirius radio into it and started to set it up. Right away big easy to touch volume and settings buttons on the front. No fumbling around on the side of the radio like the PLZ. It also boots a lot faster than the PLZ. One thing this radio is configurable. It has so many settings. It had a variable loudness, sub woofer with crossover settings, it has time alignment, listening position adjustments, auto EQ, you can add your own images to the screen as well. Please keep in mind you need to hook up the long light green wire to the parking brake or a lot of adjustments will not work. You cannot view any movies or even images or make screen adjustments like resizing the apps unless the parking brake is on.OK now lets get to the sound. All I can say is wow. The music was rich in sound and smooth. Not harsh like the PLZ. The EQ adjustments are easy and even their presets are great to start with as well. It gives you 2 custom EQ settings you can set. You can even adjust the screen angle if you want. The CD is easy to get to the whole face flips down revealing the CD/DVD slot then folds back up when your ready to listen. This stereo is right on the cusp of being a pro head unit and with the right adjustments could be. Absolutely no engine noise even with my amp and subs turned up a bit. The tuner in it is by far the best. It reminds me of the super tuner III stereos back in the day. I'm really impressed with this and the only CON is the size of the radio. You can literally adjust nearly everything on this stereo to how YOU want it to work and look. The reason it gets 5 stars is it is a cut above the rest. I'm really glad I bought this one.

Well worth it!
This review is for the AVH X4800BSThis is a totally awesome head unit. I put this in my 2005 silverado 2500HD. I bought the dash kit (Metra Electronics 95-2001) and the (RP5-GM11) to keep the steering wheel controls, onstar and chime. I did have to trim down the plastic where the stock radio used to sit. Some people say you have to cut the metal bracket out to put in the avh x4800bs. In my truck, you do not have to cut the metal bracket, just trim the plastic on the sides and the middle next to the metal bracket. If you cut the metal bracket, your dash WILL start to sag over time because it holds up the middle if the dash. I would have attached pictures of the plastic but for some reason I lost them after I took them. If I find them I will attach them to this review. If you have an iPhone, there are a lot of things you can do with this head unit. I'm an Android user so I can tell you, it works well with my phone. Sorry I can't help with the iPhone users. The bluetooth works very well, I did install the microphone for the phone and it works great. People can hear me fine and their voices come across the speakers. I also installed a back up camera. Works flawlessly. My head unit came with the latest firmware so I did not have to update it. The sound is great and there are lots of options to choose from. You can even put your own 800x480 picture on the screen, change the theme, the buttons colors, brightness and lots of other options. When I wired the RP5-GM11 to the head unit harness, I just followed each wire color. They all match up besides the mute wire but the instructions with the RP5-GM11 tell you exactly what you do and what to do with the mute wire if you use it. I soldered all my wires and used heat shrink tubing to cover the solder. Very nice head unit and highly recommended!

Almost perfect
I’m very impressed with this item and was very excited about it up until I realized that it wasn’t going to work for my application. TOO BAD. Truly a very nice item. But you can’t do the square peg in the round hole.

Installed nicely in Ford Ranger 2002
Installed nicely in Ford Ranger 2002. Bought car wiring harness, connected, works like a charm!Calls through bluetooth connection to my phone with the included microphone sound even better than my phone does according to friends.Mounting kit "Metra 95-5026 Double DIN Installation Kit for Select 2001-up Ford, Lincoln and Mercury Vehicles (Black) " took a bit of dremmel tool action both on the existing car dash, and the kit to make a tight fit. But non of the dremmel marks are visible once installed.Sounds great, all functions work, loving the install now that its done!
