VERY good quality!
im surprised, i bought these to do encaustic work, but then decided that i wasnt going to pursue that mediun as its way to messy for my studio set-up and i found a way to get the effects i want without hot wax (O:these were on their way to me when i made this decision, since i have 2 hakes i use with my watercolor work and i love them i thought i could go ahead and use these anyway...the 2 hakes i have i paid MUCH more than these cost...anyway, these are just as good and i LOVE the 3 sizes.. i am very happy with themso far no shedding either! YAY!i adore using a hake for my evergreens, which i paint a LOT of !

Fine for the low price
The bristles are soft and they wash really well. To wash, I rinse the brush in a cup of water, then fill the cup again with brush soap and water and swish the brush around. I use the brushes for painting isolation coats and varnish and there is no residue left in the bristles to make them stiff. I've used the brushes several times and only one bristle has fallen out; for the price, that's really good. One thing that really affects their usability is the unfinished wood handle. It's very rough and not comfortable. I'll probably either sand it down or seal it so that I'm not worried about getting a splinter every time I use the brush.

Great set for shellac
I use these store brushes to apply shellac. They are really fantastic for holding and evenly applying the finish.I have one that I spent $20+ on. I wanted some wider ones for when I do wider boards but didn't want to spend that kind of money. I took a chance on these. It worked great for applying the shellac to the spice racks I built for my wife

Not bad.
I wish I knew how to pronounce "hake" brush... HAYK or HAH-kay? These are a triple set that at first I considered excessive. I didn't realize I was ordering a set but they're not expensive so I didn't mind getting three. After using them though, it makes sense to have a small, medium, and large for the various size papers I use. These are pretty good for applying a proper wash and the bristles don't end up all over your work of art so that's good. The handles however are flat and made of a very inexpensive wood (like the balsa wood used for toy airplanes) so that the feel of the brush is a bit uncomfortable. Easily solved, though. Just wrap the handles in coban (the stretchy textured tape used in wound care from the pharmacy) or even cloth.

Good solid brushes. Recommend!
Well-constructed, nice brushes! I foresee myself going through a lot of these, so I'll probably be buying these again. I've been using them for about a week, and they're holding together quite well, despite the fact that I am not gentle with my brushes, and these get scrubbed more vigorously than most when it's time to clean them. That said, my experience is with the 1" and 2" brushes in this package. The 3" one is a little bit too big to use easily at this point (my wax cans aren't wide enough to dip it into), but I'm confident that that will change in the future. I would like to see about getting smaller ones now, too, though, since these are working out so well. I don't think hakes come much smaller, though, so I may be hunting for an equivalent for a while!Good solid brushes. Recommend!

Good brushes for glazing pottery
Just what I was looking for to apply engobe and glaze to my pots! With a brush like this it is very expected to lose some bristles at first, the bristles are natural hair and I imagine that some break, and some may not have been caught in the ferrule properly in manufacture, so simply wash them really well, brush the bristles back and forth in the sink with some good soap or shampoo and then I always like to put just a small amount of hair conditioner on them and rinse well to keep the hair soft. Squeeze the water out and do not dry them on the bristle end, I like to dry them in the dish drainer, the slight angle allows the water to drain rather than sit at the base of the bristles. These are good brushes and properly cared for should last many years of constant use.

Make sure you remove loose bristles before using.
I use these to apply shellac to woodworking projects and they work great. They hold a good amount of finish which saves time in the long run. Based on other reviews, concerning shedding, I made sure to pull on the new brushes before I put them to use. There was a bit of bristles that came loose, so I can see if one were to use directly out of the package it might be a little frustrating. For the price it is hard to expect perfection right out of the box

First impression was stinkingly awful.
Never got anything stinking after goat urine. After simple wash with urine smell remover it was fine. Brushes are usable. After sandingwould be even better. Comparing to others on market not very well done.
