Quality test!
We did this home test immediately after returning to our house post hurricane Helene evacuation. Within 48 hours, it turned green indicating positive for bacteria. That same day we sent off our lab test... It also came back positive for bacteria though negative for E coli. I am really impressed that the home test worked, because the total bacteria level was only 9 CFU/mL. For reference, the EPA limit is 500 CFU/mL!

Think of a warm place for this ahead of time
This test eased my mind and gave me confidence in my water. Easy to use However, buying it in the winter posed a slight problem. The directions said I needed to keep it pretty warm. There's nowhere in my house that stays over 70 degrees for long periods of time, and I needed somewhere warm to let the test sit. Luckily, my dehydrator goes down to 90 degrees F, so I was able to pop it in there for a few days. I recommend having a warm place in mind ahead of time if buying this in a cold season.

This detects even 1 bacterium so the sample procedure is critical
This is a good product. Their tech support is also good. I've gone through maybe 8 of these during our struggle to get our well bacteria back to zero and want to share some info that might help. What I discovered is that shocking your well and plumbing alone is not enough- you must be super careful when taking your water sample and choosing the faucet for testing. The faucet should be one of the old-fashioned two valve type, because those modern single handle styles use a cartridge that could allow bacteria to survive the shocking process. If you don't have any like that, then I've read that you can use an outside water hose faucet but I didn't try that.Next make sure the areator is off- that's a bacteria reservoir too.You are only testing the cold water, so make sure the hot is turned totally off.Next run the cold water to see if you get splashing back up from the basin- if you do, then your test could be ruined so figure out if you need to lay something down in the sink or maybe pull out the drain plug.Next thoroughly clean the faucet end with diluted chlorine or isopropyl alcohol (I used 100% isopropyl, but 70% should work if it's fresh). Use paper towels/cotton swab to really get into the threads and around the exterior too. Finally run the cold water for 5-10 minutes to get clean water to the tap and to rinse off any leftover disinfectant.I tested using the "just run water" method and got bright green positive bacteria within 24 hrs. I then retested with my method above and finally, thankfully, got negative coliforms. To anyone reading this, believe me, I feel your pain and wish you success!!

Peace of mind for a new well
We built a new home and our new well tested positive for coliform bacteria. While not uncommon when drilling and installing a new well, you definitely want to take care of it before drinking or showering with that water. These tests helped us confirm that we had eradicated the bacteria from both our well and the pipes. The color didn’t change after 72 hours, which is what we wanted. We did double check the results with a county test, and these proved to have good accuracy
