McGowan fixed blade,hunting knife,outdoor,campingkitchen, 6.25 x 7 x 8.25

I think this is where consumer reviews help. I have been using sharpening stones to keep my knives in good working order. Subsequently, I also used those ceramic sharpeners.None of them is satisfactory until I try this electric knife sharpener. It is easy to use and works extremely well. All my knives are very sharp now with two to three passes. Some reviewers said it took off too much metal from the knife. I got around this by pressing very lightly at first. If it sharpened I stop. If not I will increase the pressing while making the passes until it sharpens so n o escessive metal loss.I highly recommend this sharpener since it is made in the U.S. and it costs half as much as the other brands. Other brands may be even better but since this one does such a good job, in my opinion, why spend more for something you don't really need.

Easy to use and seems to do the job

Good machine and I use my household knives daily. The first machine I received had a strange motor sound and smell when it started. Easy fix no hassle return and reordered the same one A++ keeps a good edge on my knifes. Don't use on pen knifes if you value the blade they are to small, but for kitchen & butchering knifes with wider blades this thing works as described well worth the money in my opinion. Keep in mind this not a 700 dollars commercial grinder type butcher knife sharpener with 1/2 horse motor. Its a house hold sharpener, but works great on butcher knifes providing you don't put to much pressure on it and work it nice and easy, after the new edge has taken place every month touch ups keep my 11 blades super sharp with a few runs on a steel. I was excited about receiving this sharpener, and I was not disappointed! The sharpener is straightforward and easy to use. The instructions are clear and simple to understand. Reading the instructions are critical!!!!!!!! I found that honing the initial hollow ground required moderate pressure and about ten passes. The edge was acceptable after this step. I then decreased the pressure and did three more passes. The edge was excellent.....sharp enough to cut a piece of bent paper.I am especially edified that this sharpener is MADE IN AMERICA (albeit with some imported parts).

Bought this sharpener end of June due to good review. Used it few times, but now the motor is not working. Trying to get hold customer service.

Ended up replacing this after fighting it for two years. I had to replace a chef's knife that it reshaped. The ratings were super high but it never did a very good job sharpening any knife. Avoid this if you can.

I purchased this McGowan FireStone sharpener from AMZN.com in AUG/2019. I have it on my work table and always available. I use it regularly to sharpen any/all knives (kitchen, EDC, etc.). It has worked flawlessly. I highly recommend this product.

My mother had this same sharpener for years and when she died it went to my sister. Every Christmas I gathered up my knives and took them to her house to be sharpened. Finally, I bought my own recently. I was so delighted to find it still available after all these years. It is heavy enough to hold in place while in use, and best of all, it is a wiz at sharpening in just a few strokes. No chips in the blade, just a razor sharp edge. I'm thrilled with it.
