As Good As It Gets - double vinyl Gene greatest hits
Gene were one of the best UK bands of the 90's. They released four studio albums in total, plus one live album and a rarities/live album. A guitar band often compared to The Smiths, with Martin Rossiter's vocal style often compared to Morrissey.Regardless of any comparisons to other bands or association with the 90's Britpop movement, Gene is unique. Anthemic melodies, sharp and funny lyrics, and a vocal delivery that is sensitive and compelling. Gene hit the target with every single song. This beautiful blue double LP features 22 tracks showcading their massive talent. It includes all the singles and is a great representation of all four studio albums. Both vinyl are heavyweight and are sky blue in colour (not navy or dark blue). Sure to become a collectors item soon.

My favourite band
Gene are fantastic. One of my go to bands since forever. I already have all the albums and the singles but still bought this because it's Gene and I wish they were still together. If you love Gene you'll buy it. If you don't know Gene, buy it and you'll love them too.

Slightly disappointing...
I'm a bit disappointed with this to be honest, not sure if it's because of the blue vinyl or the production but there's like a static sound through both discs (almost like a radio that hasn't been tuned in properly) it's not so noticeable through the louder tracks, but on the quieter sections of songs like Olympian it almost overpowers the music and is also very apparent between tracks. Also (and this is just personal opinion) I'd have preferred to have the single versions/mixes of tracks like Fill Her Up and As Good As It Gets rather than the album cuts that appear here.

Was looking forward to that sound again
For some reason the quality is really bad and it sounds like the stylus is moving over gravel. In the quiet parts it’s so noticeable it’s really irritating.

Review NOT for the music content - but the awful vinyl pressing
Review is not for the collection of songs which are SUPERB and Gene are a fantastic band who I love dearly. HOWEVER, the Blue Vinyl pressing is ATROCIOUS - the surface noise on the vinyl makes it virtually unlistenable for me - especially through quieter songs like Olympian where the noise over powers the music. From my reading this seems a common problem too so whoever at Demon Records gave the green light on this pressing made a HUGE oversight. It’s likely I’ll return my copy and I would say replace it with the Olympian Reissue LP but I don’t have much faith regarding Demon Records treatment of that album either following this. Such a shame, really disappointed. Gene’s material deserves so much better than this representation.
