One of America's most distinguished church musicians - conductor, organist, clinician, and composer Austin Lovelace (1919-2010) has played organ recitals, conducted hymn festivals, choral and organ workshops, and choral festivals in the U.S., Europe and around the world; and has published over 1000 works for choir, soloist, organ and brass, during a career that spanned almost seven decades. Presented here is a vintage 1957 audiophile recording that demonstrates Lovelace's considerable skill at the organ. Dr. Lovelace chose a varied program of serious organ music, including compositions from the Baroque and the Modern eras. Located in the Sanctuary of the First Methodist Church of Evanston, Illinois, the organ heard in these recordings was entirely rebuilt in 1954 by it's maker, Austin Organ Inc., to combine the chorus work and mutations typical of older construction with the solo stops characteristic of modern organ building. The selections demonstrate amply both the tonal quality and range of the organ and the vividness of stereophonic recording, which was a completely new development at the time. All selections newly remastered.

I've been looking for this album for 15 years!
This is my favorite organ album, digitally remastered. It was not released on CD that I know of. My vinyl record was definitely worn out through repeated playings. One hint for the listener. Play this through really good speakers. The speakers should be able to move a lot of air on the low notes and should be very clear on the lower mids. You will not be able to understand how good this is on cheap speakers, especially on the prelude and fugue in A minor ("The Great"). The Great is my favorite organ piece and I like Mr. Lovelace's rendition and performance the best!
