Works great/Saves money!
We recently switched to Verizon Fios from a local ISP provider, who in turn had replaced Comcast. We were sold on Fios' great monthly price, no contract and the promise of a huge pickup in speed. What neither the salesman nor the installer warned us about was that Fios would overwhelm our old Apple Air Port router and we would need a new one. Once we figured this out, a Verizon representative wanted to sell me a new Verizon-approved router for $300 or rent me one for $15 a month. As I was texting with him, I checked to see what was available on Amazon and this router popped up for $90. The reviews convinced me this was the way to go and they were right.Installation was a breeze and as mad as I was at Fios, the speed pickup has been fantastic across all our devices. I can't figure out what a $300 router could better that would make it worth the extra expense.I would add just one tip that I didn't notice in the reviews below. When you're done with the installation, you'll likely want to change the name of the network and password that is stamped on the side of the router. Log in to your Verizon internet account and follow the network management prompts to make the changes. It's pretty easy.

Good replacement for old Verizon Actiontec MI424-WR router
This router replaced a Verizon Actiontec model MI424-WR router for Verizon Fios service. Our Verizon service is 50/50 Mbps download/upload speed. The Verizon Speed Test website had the old router only delivering speeds of 7/12 Mbps. The new router is delivering speeds of 59/60. This is plenty of speed for our purposes. Do not have to pay any monthly rental by buying this router. Installed on 2/23/2024. So far it is working great.

Gateway works A good Deal
Purchase router to replace the same router I rent from Verizon and upgrade speed to 200 mbps.Remove old one and put in new router. It does not work so I call Verizon. Tech guy restarts router and it works.I think I did not wait long enough to power up router so it does not work. The firmware is not up to date. Call Verizon tech to update firmware to the latest version.Verizon tech guy is very helpful. Thumb up.The Fios speed is lightening fast. The Fios app used to work fine with old router. It works partially with new router even the same hardware and newer firmware. However, after returning the rental router, the Fios app works perfectly as before. Conclusion: a good deal to save $12 rental fee with 200 mbps from Verizon.

Hope this helps someone, as I wish I had it when I was making my buying decision
First, this router works as expected for any Central Jerzey FIOS customer, and I assume any other FIOS users, at least in the Northeast and probably nationwideJust so you know up front, I am an experienced IT worker who worked 19 years at a very (very) large telecommunications company, and I was very familiar with items like this from my jobPersonally, I like to save myself a couple hundred bucks every time Verizon comes out with their latest and greatest router, and I buy from them their previous model, that they usually sell deeply discounted. I personally have no need for their latest and greatest router as I/we don/t games and they typically are a complete overkill hype of bandwidth that you will NEVER use. I did this the last time some 7ish years ago when I bought their ‘old’ Actiontec m424WR Rev. 1 router (which I think I saw is still being sold by somebody on the Zon) after they upgraded to this model, the Verizon FiOS Quantum Gateway G1100 AC1750 router. I missed the window on their last ‘fire sale’ of this model, as they now install/rent/sell the Verizon FiOS G3100. So I was forced to search the web, and settled here; not at the cheapest price for this Verizon router, but close, and the Zon’s 90-day guarantee, which I thought was worth something to meThe specs on the G3100 show it’s about 5ish times faster than the Actiontec, but that’s in lab under perfect conditions with much higher service . . . but still, I figured it should be an improvement, with greater range and maybe no need for a kitchen repeater . . . and greater reach for outside. This model is not new, but is used/repackaged, an cleaned up – since routers have no moving part, they should last forever unless you have them connected to a unprotected outlet and get a line surge. So, I bought it and saved myself $210, and I have had it up for 3 weeks with no issues.I also have compiled relative before/after speeds of my old router vs new, with my older iPhone and even older Dell laptop, on my ‘only’** Verizon 100mps service, very late at night:----- old iPhone\old routerdownload 18 Mbpsupload 27 Mbps- old iPhone\new routerdownload 46 Mbps (155% faster)upload 52 Mbps (93% faster)----- old laptop Wi-Fi\old routerdownload 23upload 30- old laptop Wi-Fi\new routerdownload 27 (17% faster)upload 37 (23% faster)----- old laptop\Ethernet wired to a WIFI booster/repeater via old routerdownload 57upload 41-old laptop\Ethernet wired to a WIFI booster/repeater via new routerdownload 80 (40% faster)upload 63 (54% faster)Note: wiring the Laptop directly to the new router would be even faster, but I didn’t test that, although my assumption is that it would be at its theoretical max of about 85 (I say this would be the max, because with all communication protocols, you lose about 15% of your max speeds to protocol overhead)Of course, ‘your results may vary’ . . . and the above should only be used to see what relative improvements I got with the newer/last generation Verizon routerI should also note, that my older Verizon router did the job for me, granted with 100 Mbps service . . . as we have several smart TVs, a smart receiver, 4 iPhones, 2 iWatches, a WIFI repeater and even my backup generator is on it . . . and my two daughters stream content and I have FIOS TV service . . . however the range of the older router was not that great (see note above about WIFI repeater) and I just thought it was time to upgrade, especially for under $100 – I have not yet tested the new router’s range, but I expect it to be much improved both in the house at my dead spot, and outside** Verizon now sells gigabit service, but you also have to buy/rent one of those new routers too, which truly is overkill – why?, well again you will never get the marketed speeds due to protocol overhead, and then it’s going to be throttled by your weakest link – i.e., usually the physical device like your laptop or iPhone - what device is built today to handle gigabit speeds . . . maybe your nuclear reactor operations roomYou can check this for yourself . . . Google “what is the maximum speed I need for my home WIFI” and you will see, depending on the concurrent usage and what it is (internet vs streaming/gaming) you can get by with much less speed than even my 100mbps . . . so save yourself money and don’t buy the over-hyped gig speedsAs for my old Actiontec, well it’s getting a second life at my one kid’s apartment – NICE!The picture above shows it comes with a Verizon Quick Setup guide – well, that never happened, as I got like a postcard 3 step setup that just basically showed you to connect your cable, connect your power, and off you go. You can search the internet for the user guide and find it, I forget where, but note the PDFs at Verizon are corrupted, so go elsewhereFor this failure to provide a user guide of any sort, or link to a working PDF, not so much for me, but for the unexperienced, I have to gig them 1 starFinally, of course you can buy another non-cable input router for a little more and get even better performance, but that entails you running CAT5 or higher Ethernet cable from the unit where your fiber comes in, changing the output configuration at the unit and then calling into Verizon to change the protocol back on their end, which of course they have no desire to do – personally I wanted no part of this, as I have a very nice cable setup on my wall for my router to plugin into.In closing, one great tip that will save you hours of time . . . after you first boot this router, you can log into it as admin via your browser, and change it’s ID and PW . . . and assuming your old ID and PW were secure, change it to your old ID and PW . . . why . . . then you don’t have re-setup your smart TVs, a smart receiver, iPhones, IWatches, repeater and backup generator – that alone makes it worth it to read this long reviewHope this helps somebody on the fence with purchasing this product

Easy peasy, replaced previously purchased Actiontec
Looks good, works perfectly. Disconnected old (previously purchased, functional FIOS Actiontec) router from power, and FIOS coax, and Ethernet to my PC. Plugged new router into new power, Ethernet to PC. (No FIOS connected yet). Entered “192.168.1.1” into browser. Up came router login page. Entered password printed on side label on new printer. Up came router interface. Changed label-provided password to my password, also changed SSID to my old one (makes things simple). Saved those settings. Left all other default settings. Turned router off, attached FIOS coax, turned router back on. Within minutes, all devices back on WiFi and full access to Internet on PC / phones / tablets. Automatically connected devices to appropriate WiFi band / protocols (e.g., iPhone on 5Ghz, smart plugs on 2.4Ghz). No Verizon calls necessary. WiFi speeds went from 50-70 Mbps to 130-170 Mbps as well as stronger signals (yes, they are related…). Also bought insurance, just for ease of mind.

Stay away from this. They claim a 12 month warranty but will not honor it.
Stay away from this. WiFI signal was spotty and the Ethernet ports would turn off intermittently. I thought it was Verizon service until the Router stopped connecting after 8 months of use. Went to a Verizon store and got another one and that works like a charm. They claim a 12 month warranty but Amazon has trained monkeys to answer the phone and ask you to contact Verizon for the warranty after 90 days. I called and 3 agents said they same thing and would not care to read the description or explain why they claim 12 month warranty. Do not buy this.
