This was a gift...
I bought this for a friend who has a 9 y.o. son who has autism. Although she is very active being an advocate for her son, she's told me that it's answered a lot of questions for her that she's never known. If you have a son or daughter with autism or have a family member or friend that does, this is a great book to have as a reference. She told me that it was a great gift. Sometimes, people are scared to ask others (doctors, teachers, etc.) certain questions or just don't know the questions to ask. I've always believed that knowledge is power & this book is a great gift. A great companion book is " The Everyday Advocate: Standing Up For Your Autistic Child" by Areva Martin. She's not only one of the best lawyers in the US, she's also the proud Mom & advocate for her autistic child. My friend has told me that these 2 books have taught her many things that she's wondered & asked about but was never able to get a clear answer. Having a child with autism is challenging. As I said, knowledge is power & I felt wonderful being able to give her that power.

The best comprehensive book with MOST of the answers you ever needed about Autism Spectrum Disorders
William Stillman's books are some of the easiest to read on the subject. His gentle, factual, research-based information will help anyone struggling with the floods of conflicting information out there on the subject. An eloquent self-advocate, his concept of "presume intellect" is one that needs to be shouted from the mountain tops.Another stellar read is EMPOWERED AUTISM PARENTING, a must read for every parent of a child with ASD's. Read this first if your child has just been diagnosed. Again, Stillman has an incredible voice, a great sense of wit and humor, and a call to reality for those of us who were/are steering blindly into the world of autism as parents.

Good start to understanding Autism
Having a son who is profoundly autistic for several years now (14), I found this book to be somewhat helpful for families new to the autistic community. Much of the book seems to be geared for the mild to moderate spectrum, but thinking outside of the box, one can apply some of the examples to the profound community as well.I would recommend this book to both new autistic families and to those who are typical looking for a place to start.

great for working with families and support groups
I purchased specifically for families I help and therapists I work with in the children s health mental field. I am a family partner and often I find myself doing workshops on SPD, Autism, IEPs/504s and books likes these come in handy. This book is an easy to read. You can bounce around in the book to get what you need without feeling like you missed something. I would love to see more teachers, PRINCIPALS, PE TEACHERS, therapists, parents etc use them.Book was packaged well and sent on time.

Autism Answer Book
The book was not quite what I expected. It is not as reader friendly as I had hoped, but does have some useful information..
