Creative Acrylic Landscapes (Acrylic Painting Tips and Techniques) Paperback – November 1, 2009

The best picture in this book is on the cover. Most of the stuff inside is adequate. at best. I'm not certain I want my paintings to look like the author's. The step-by-step instruction, however, is detailed and specific. That makes it a worthwhile read.

This is one of the best step-by-step books I have ever seen (and I have gotten a ton out from the library). That being said, I don't love all the projects. But the ones that I do love are great! I love the front cover, but that's not a step-by-step painting. Of the ones that are, I like Constantine Bay. It has 38 pictures along with details under each photo on how to paint. Next is Sunflowers. It has 47 pictures! I don't love this one, BUT with the instructions, it can easily be adapted to my needs (I would change the building in the background). Golden Woodland is my favorite by far. 37 pictures for this one. Cows by River has some good points (nice water reflection), but I'm not much into cow paintings (even though this one could be changed to be deer or just leave out the wildlife). 46 pictures. Lake Garda is for someone who likes to paint a lot of buildings tightly together. I don't, so would skip this one with 51 pictures. The last one, Colorado Forest has 44 pictures and instructions. I do like it, but would probably change it up some. So, I love this book for all the detailed pictures (as you can tell) and like this book for the actual paintings I might attempt. I have renewed this book again and again from the library and am thinking seriously of just buying it already. A solid 4 star book.

I enjoyed this book and it will be useful in the future. The worked examples were good inspiration. Advise on pallette colours was handy too.
