A HERO WITH HORSE-SENSE
This book was not what I expected and at times I found the story jumped clumsily around between expert advice about horse-handling and childhood memories. In spite of that, I found Buck's tale deeply impressive and, at times, gripping. The description of his awful life as a child is painful to read, but there is no hatred. What shines out of this book is his modesty and good sense and even more, his deep compassion for all God's creatures. How he came to this out of such a violent past is difficult to understand. I gave Faraway Horses five stars because it's a book I shall always remember, and probably re-read.. For me, that's the test.

Aspire to be like Buck Brannaman. Your life will improve dramatically.
If you like to hear lessons in life by someone that has lived through a tough up bringing but turned out to be a loving man then look no further than Buck Brannaman. I don't say this often because there are so few men around like Buck but we all should aspire to be like him and have the attitude that he has. I am sure he is not perfect and like us all has his flaws but he has surmounted hardship that would have destroyed most others and it would have turned them into damaged adults but not Buck Brannaman.

A wise and gentle soul sharing his wisdom
A biography of a great horseman. When you read this book, it's as if you are sitting listening to him share the great, good and hard moments from his life. It is full of 'lick and chew' moments when you can soak in lessons he had to learn or give. Being a horse lover it was hard reading the cruelty he encountered but it gets balanced out by those he helped along the way. This book would appeal to all because it is about how you treat horses and folk.

Patience and kindness are their own rewards.
I found the story of Buck Brannaham both inspirational and educational. He perseveres when other mortals give up as a bad job. He must have the ultimate job satisfaction of transforming abused and angry horses into animals who are at peace with their surroundings.

Fantastic read
I have never owned a horse but bought this book after watching a programme on telly about Buck Brannaman. I could not put this book down. This book is more about the man than the horses and what a man Buck is and what a life he has led. A true hero and an inspiration to all who cross his path. Please read this book it is truly amazing.

A very good read.
Considering his abuse as a child this man has grown into a confident and well rounded individual. His soft understanding manner comes across and it is easy to see why he has so much empathy and success with horses.

Recommend, recommend, recommend!!!For all horse and pony lovers, but also for all those interested in horse healing, general trauma recovery for humans and horses, and a very personal, well thought, and carefully written biography of what seems like a very well rounded, lovely man.
