Great little inexpensive press!
This little plastic burger press works great. I do use the insert for the 'dimple' as it makes it easier to pull the patty out of the container. Now, note: This IS plastic and you don't just put a ball of meat in it and press down on the top hard to press the meat out. IT WILL BREAK if you do this. Use a little common sense people. This is an inexpensive item that's helping to make your burger patties more uniform. I (more or less) weigh out balls of my meat mixtures that I plan on patty-ing up to roughly the same weight then place on in the burger press and spread out the meat relatively evenly (doesn't have to be perfect, after all the top press portion is what will smoosh it all together), then press down with the handle portion as evenly as I can. Yeah, a few were a little lopsided but they fried up fine and it definitely made my burgers closer to normal sizes instead of some of them being small and others being overly large. LOLIf you want an inexpensive burger press, this works! I'm very happy with it so far. I've used it with hamburger meat and I've also used it with ground up pork that I made chorizo burgers with. VERY good. Try it! ;-)

Good, thin burgers.
I like my burgers big, rare. and juicy. My wife likes hers thin, burnt, and well-done - aka dry. So when I got a new charcoal grill, she was unhappy with the results. With this press, I weigh out 5-6 oz of meat, slap it into the press, and push it into place with a bit of a twisting motion. I do sometimes need to re-arrange the meat a bit to get a consistent thickness, but it works fine. The insert makes a dimple so the patty doesn't bulge in the center, and makes it easy to remove. It doesn't get me a big burger, but I can always put two together. And if I cook my burgers low and slow or really quick for a short time, I can still keep mine juicy. By the way, if you like low and slow big burgers, you can just remove the insert and put about 8 oz of meat into it. It is a bit tricky to get big burgers out without deforming, but not a big deal - just coat with a little oil first.

Perfect patty every time
I paired this patty press with some 4.5 inch round waxed patty papers.I make perfect 100 gram patties to freeze and store. You can take the insert/lifter out to make a bigger patty but 100 gram patties are perfect for me.I wait for chuck roast to go on sale and have the butcher grind it for me.Then I grab this press. It only takes a minute to make each patty. After the patties are made I put them on a tray and freeze them.I then wrap them up individually in aluminum foil and then put them in a big zip lock freezer bag and toss it in the freezerWhen I want a burger I pull a patty out of the freezer and thaw it over night. The patty fries up nice at medium heat, 5 minutes each side in a little butter. With the built in dimple maker I have a burger that stays flat and doesn't over plump. This press is well made and sturdy and I expect to have it for many years. This is a must have for every kitchen

Not very durable, but works great and will last with some care
This is the second 'Perfect Burger Press' from Progressive that I bought... the first was the previous white version that lasted about two months before cracking in half. It's simple and works perfectly. It makes 4-1/2" patties, which I use for 4 oz. to 8oz. burgers, using the included 'dimple insert'. Any thinner, the dimple insert can't be used as it'll poke a hole through the patty. I brush the inside with peanut oil, reapplying every 3-4 patties and have very little issue with them sticking.I've found that the dimple insert does little to help with burger swelling, but it makes removing the patties much easier.Only complaint is that the top press part is not very durable. My first one broke after two months (probably 30-40 burgers). It's really not strong enough to use as a 'press', despite the title. I now press the hamburger into the bottom a bit before I use the top to flatten and even the patties out in order to reduce the stress at the center. It takes a couple of extra seconds, but it does make perfectly even and consistent patties with little effort. If the top part were more durable, this press would truly be perfect, in my opinion. As for the white (old version) vs grey (new version), I've had both side by side and I inspected them very closely... they are 100% identical. Plastic is the same thickness, texture is the same, markings are all the same... the only change is the color.

Perfect 1/3 pound fat burgers!
It works perfectly, better than the Tupperware style one that it replaced. Calibrated for 1/3 pound of ground beef. Makes a well formed thick burger to exactly fit a large bun. It’s a high performance burger maker.

OK, but not great for thick burgers
This works just fine, but the burger comes out rather large and thin (great if that is what you want, but I like a thicker burger that can be well done on the outside and still pink on the inside, and this device makes them just too thin to do that. If you double up to make for a thicker burger, then it is HUGE - but maybe this would be great for you if you are very hungry ;) ). The dimple in the middle didn't seem to make any difference to me either (other than to make it thinner in the middle, and thus even harder to achieve a pink middle). On the plus side, it disassembles easily for cleaning. Overall, I prefer a different style of burger press (I bought two at the same time to compare). It has a stem to push out the burger from the mold (rather than the "lifter" that this one has), and also has the ability to adjust the thickness of the burger - although there is a bit more to taking it apart for cleaning. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000CFTSH/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
