The Most Beautiful House in the World

This is a great book - a super easy summer read for anyone who enjoys architecture and design.

The book provided some history and foundation of architecture in an enjoyable manner. I've become a fan of this author.

Great service…great book

I loved this book because it showed how a homebuilder's view can change in the process of constructing a building. Mr. Rybczynski's original quest to build a boathouse, worthy in itself, expanded to construct a home for he and his wife. I liked the exterior of the completed building because it was compact, simple, yet had sufficient flourishes to establish itself as a work of architecture rather than a clone of many similar sized small houses. My wife and I built our house and can affirm that building your own home is a very satisfying experience.

A book about building a boat house develops into a book of philosophy and learning about many different things. This is the sort of book that stays with you for many years. Unique.

this refers to the 1989 Penguin Edition-Asa mechanical engineer in my late thirties I started to know what architecture was all about and its relation to design. It turns out that its not easy to have a comprehensive introduction to the theme. Fortunately, Through Amazon and its reviews and suggested I bought this wonderful book and I was captivated, not only by the perspective it gives on the architecs work, but also on the insight about design it provides.

Not nearly as good as Michael Pollan's very similar book. Unlike Pollan, Rybczynski does not give us any great detail of his own building project and developing knowledge, and mostly uses his project to give us little essays on different aspects of architecture and construction, whereas Pollan gives us a better balance of the personal and the overview, and is thus more engaging.

I bought this book as a gift for my son-in-law who has just finished building his lake house - a work of love.He got into the book right away - we had lost him for half a day.I do like all the writing of Witold Ryczinski.

Was expecting a hardcover but overall it's in good condition.
