Loved seeing this again. The anthropomorphism is a little dated. But this was the era of Born Free, Animal Magic and Lassie -not to mention the Rex Harrison Dr Doolittle, and the redoubtable Skippy. Most screen animals of the day understood complex problems and tasks if spoken to loudly in English. Sort of a 60s/70s Wild At Heart with cuter animals, and come to that people! Marshal Thompson is wonderful in the title role and Hedley, the District Commissioner makes you want to grab the nearest cup of Earl Grey and start reading Kipling again!!

I watched this series when I was a child,superb family entertainment, the box set was in German but the discs played in English,well worth the money!!
