Excellent product
The kit I bought was for M8 1.25 thread pitch. It did the job perfectly at less than 1/3 the cost of a Helicoil brand insert. More inserts with it as well.I see some negative reviews & as far as I can tell, most of their issues were user error. There are 3 common metric thread pitches - so along with needing the correct size, it has to be the correct pitch. If either is incorrect it won't work! The directions (yes, I lost my man card by reading them) even says to try screwing the bolt into an insert to make sure it's correct - do it!Additionally, make sure that chips are removed at each step. After drilling, blow out the hole with compressed air or some carb cleaner. After tapping, do the same. Also - when tapping, use correct technique: start the tap by turning in a couple of turns. Then after that, turn the tap in 1/2 turn, back it out 1/2 turn, turn in a full turn, back 1/2, etc. This clears the chips out of the threads & ensures that they are cut correctly & smoothly. The tap included with the kit has a 1/4" square end. This means that you can use a 1/4" socket extension if the hole is too far behind stuff to get to easily. Best to use a T handle from a tap & dies set so you can apply pressure evenly & keep the tap straight. Using a wrench makes it easy to get the tap out of correct alignment - which will make bad threads.Hope this helps folks who haven't done this sort of repair before.

Easy to use
I’ve used this product before when fixing threads on my Z32. They work really well in aluminum. I was re-sealing my buddies EJ20 and when I went to put on the crossover pipe, the previous guy snapped the bolt and applied RTV to prevent coolant from leaking so it was only held down with 1 bolt instead of 2. Well I tried everything and couldn’t take it out so I had to drill the bolt out. Once done, used the supplied drill to clean out the threads and then begun tapping. Everything went smoothly from using the drill bit to tapping. Once done, cleaned hole and applied orange locktite to helicoil and installed it. I like to install it a little bit deeper and not flush as it makes it easier for the bolt to catch the threads. Punched the little tab out and waited about 15min before assembling the engine to let the locktite dry. Worked like a charm and would recommend if you’re in a pinch.

Strong material
These inserts are made strong and it is very easy to use. My intake manifold is made of cast magnesium and all the 10mm threads were stripped. It saved me a lot of money cause no one does magnesium weld and the dealership discontinued selling the intake manifold. Now I have no more boost leak.

This thing rocks!
The helicoil set worked great for repairing my small engine! I used all the tools and the drill and tap are sharp! Very happy with it

My son loved it
He raved about the ease of product. Needed to reform the threads of a motor. Last minute purchase. Product arrived quickly, took less than 5 minutes for the motor repair and he was up and running.

installation tool is junk
I got three uses out of the installation tool. It woorked well once, and then it failed to release the coil. It snags badly and gets stuck into the hole. They should have used a harder steel to cast it, since the coil easily cuts into the end and gets stuck. I wouldn't dare reuse the tool, but the rest of the kit is okay. Fortunately, it is an easy tool to machine. All in all, we got the job done with the aluminum engine bolt sockets where it was necessary to fix threads.

Great product
Arrived on time.Worked perfect for thread repair in wood and brass. Just be certain you use the tap correctly (3/4 turn forward, 1/2 turn back, 3/4 forward 1/2 back blow out thread chips when done) start the threads properly when placing the insert and don’t overnighted it. I suggest you try threading the bolt a few turns to make sure threads are lined up properly before breaking off the tang. If for some reason the bolt doesn’t thread easily you can reach in with needle nose pliers and pull the entire insert out by the tang. It comes out as a coil of stiff wire. Then you can re-thread a new insert and double check the fit before breaking the tang off.
