Better Than The Original!
Like the original 1964 World's Fair book from Bill Cotter and Bill Young New York World's Fair, The 1964-1965 (NY) (Images of America) this book is a fast paced, picture packed journey through history. The book has the same format as the original with an abundance of great pictures and excellent writing, yet it's a completely fresh and exciting way to look at the fair. The book captures the momentum of the fair as it grew from an idea into reality. Beyond the fair, it sets about telling the stories of the exhibits that made it into the fair. Remarkably Cotter and Young include quite a bit of information (including pictures) from exhibits that didn't make it into the fair. These are things you simply can't find anywhere else! From conceptual paper models, through the building process to the finished results, the book shows how exhibits and various features of the fair came to be. It also shows how some were changed along the way to accommodate success or failure. I think my favorite part of the book is how it covers the end of the fair. It shows house wives pulling up the flowers and exhibits being mercilessly torn to shreds. For the bits and pieces of the fair that survived, the book tracks them down and shows where they are now and how they're being used, including some one-of-a-kind items that found their way into personal collections.Overall, I think the book does a great job of presenting fresh information. I really enjoyed the first book, but I actually found this book more interesting because of all the new information accented by one of a kind photos. If you're a fair buff you'll love it. Regardless of who you are, when you turn that last page, you'll wish there was more!

Five Stars
A great follow up to the first book. This is truly one of the most comprehensive photo books in the construction and demolishion of the 64-65 World's Fair which just celebrated its 50th Anniversary. This book also reflects on the legacy of the fair and its lasting impact (while not a financial success) still felt today. Of particular interest are the then/now comparison photos. Over all a great little book.

Gift for my son.
He picked this book out as part of his Christmas Gift. He visited New York prior to this and wanted to learn some of the history of the fair...I believe he enjoyed this book.

look forward to this.
will be reading this today, but wanted to say that my dad worked at the fair, from start to finish, and ....some to many of the poor countries invited in, could not afford to pay the outrageous *garbage fees* they were locked into. with no alternatives to get the garbage out, some threw them in the ponds & foundations, but most just...left.and that is how profiteering diminished the worlds fair.
