What a great treat to write a review for this exquisite book. I feel like it was sent to mespecifically by my own Gurus as the teaching is that all true Gurus know and understandthe same truths. This is THE book for seekers who love scriptural teachings. Guru Vachaka Kovaiis wonderful too. I'm on my second reading and plan to have it by my side for the rest of my life.David Godman translated these incredible East Indian teachings into English. I wouldlove to meet Mr. Godman and thank him from the bottom of my heart. I wrote my ownbook, Beginning Saint, Living 24 Hours a Day in the Consciousness of Your Highest Self,before I had read either Padamalai or Guru Vachaka Kovai. These latter two books haveactually given seekers the experience of the Self, God, Brahmin, The Heart, Atma Swarupa, in ways I could never have even dreamed. You are truly blessed if you buythis book and really read and contemplate what it is telling you. I cried from shearjoy after nearly every passage........Thank you David Godman who translated the teachings from Muruganar who got them directly from the Ramana Maharshi. I love you all.

In my mind, Padamalai completes a trilogy containing the essence of Ramana’s teaching. The other two books are Talks with Ramana Maharshi and Guru Vachaka Kovai. All three are masterpieces of truth, each with its own character. Padamalai is a compilation of short teaching statements that read like aphorisms. Each verse is a jewel to be contemplated. Of the three, Padamalai may be the most accessible because the verses are so short that anyone can hang with each concise statement. David Godman has, as usual, brought extraordinary skill and scholarship to this work. He, no doubt, has been put on earth partly to compile Ramana’s teachings for the generations. Thank you, David, and, of course, thank you Bhagavan for showing humanity the way out of bewilderment.

I bought this after hearing David Godman discuss Muruganar and this particular book in an interview David gave. The verses really hit home and there are A LOT of them that will stop you in your tracks. It's an easy read, well organized and a very important guide self investigation.

This is one of the best books I have ever read in my life. Thank you so much to David Godman for making this work available in English. This, along with Talks with Sri Ramana Maharshi, are probably my two most favorite spiritual books ever written.

This is a poetic compendium of stunning insight and wisdom by a pole star of Advaita gathered over decades by a loving devotee of Ramana Maharshi. An immersion in these views will undoubtedly dissolve ignorance surrounding human 'Identity' conditioned by the ages and its resolution in 'Self Realization'. Absolutely Superb!

The Gospel of Thomas: The Enlightenment Teachings of JesusPADAMALAI is one of the very best books I've read on the Spiritual Teachings of Ramana Maharshi. This work, carefully translated and edited from the original Tamil by Dr T.V.Venkatasubramanian, David Godman and Robert Butler is a faithful record of many sayings of the Maharshi cast into poetic form by Sri Muruganar, who was a Devout Devottee of Ramana Maharshi his Guru; included are many sayings which heretofore were unavailable in English. David Godman is one of the very best writers dealing with the works of Maharsh and his followers. Padamalai is Deep and Profound; it covers the whole 'spectrum' of Maharshi's teaching, which deal with all aspects of Way of Advaita Vedanta and its practical 'aplication' to all areas of our lives. I had to stay with this book to the very last page-it was a Super Spiritual Experience from beginning to end for me. For those who regard Ramana Maharsh as their Guru, Padamalai will most certainly be seen as a new 'Bible' of Devotion and Meditation for them. Sri Muruganar often referred to his Guru as 'Padam' so 'Padamalai' is a Devout and Faithful record of the Wisdom Saying of Padam. My thanks and boundless appreciation go out to the above named three authors,for this par-excellent achievement in presenting this great work in easy to read English...Desmond Robinson.The 'Gospel of Thomas:The Enlightenment Teachings of Jesus' is a work which would be very compatible with the Teaching of Ramana Maharshi-author Robert Wolfe has himself a strong spiritual link to the the Advaitic Tradition of which Mahashi 'belonged' viz of Adi Shankara.

A book that will I will probably be reading on and off for the rest of my life. So much love and devotion pour through these words.

Experiential insights from a spiritual seeker at the feet of Master

For anyone interested in Hindu spirituality or spirituality in general, especially those that are acquainted with works of Ramana Maharshi and Nisargadatta Maharaj, this book is a must have, it contains teachings of Ramana Maharshi unpublished elsewhere and very well presented by David Godman. There is no excuse for not owning this book, if you are serious about your spiritual quest you must own this book. One of the essential books that are to be read over and over again for ever new insights.
