Drawing The Line on Emotions (Being Mad)
"I get so mad" - descriptions of things and times when children get mad (being blamed for something they didn't do, having to take a nap when they're not tired, having an "accident" and everyone laughs, etc). This is a book that every child can relate to. The one part that I did not like was the portion (and picture) when the child is about to hit a cat because it had run across the road (and almost got run over by a car). I did not think that it was appropriate for the author and the illustrator to convey that it is acceptable to punish ill behavior by striking another thing.Parents should talk to their children about feelings of anger and seek alternatives to violent behavior. The illustrations are in black, white and orange. It is very detailed and effectively portrays the feelings of anger, rage and of being mad. It is not a typical bedtime story. I would recommend reading this when a parent/teacher has an ample opportunity to dicuss this topic in depth.

this book shows children acting horribly inappropriately.
i purchased this book for my daughter several years ago on her kindle, thinking it would teach her appropriate reactions when she is angry...how wrong i was.this book shows children acting horribly inappropriately...where is the storyline to show a child how they might try to handle a difficult situation?my daughter was so upset over the images of one child hitting a cat and another of a child yelling at a dog, she cried for several days after at the mere thought of them. it got so bad that i finally deleted this book from her library--the one and only time i have ever done so.this book is anything but a winner.

I loved this book 25 years ago!
Yes, 25 years ago I fell in love with this great book. I still have the mobile I made as a book report hanging in my office. It is a simple story that captures your heart because chances are you've been so mad, too!

Do not read this book children! It says on of the characters spanks their cat and then in the end there is a song talking about a guy getting blown up. It doesn't even say how to deal with your anger, it's just a bunch of rude kids getting angry the entire book.

This book shows graphic scenes of animal cruelty as well as depicts inappropriate behavior. The animal cruelty scenes go against whatever we've been trained to teach regarding humane behavior.

I was so mad (that this book wasn't written better)
I understand the need for children's books about emotions, but this book is over-the-top. Not only is it dated, but the emotions are described without any resolution. Each page shows a mad child who is mad for a different reason, but nowhere does it show the child doing something about his/her anger, nor do the children talk to adults about what to do when you're mad.Add that to the page where the child spanks the cat and says, "You could be dead!" This one needs to be weeded. ASAP.
