Do NOT buy
I bought this knife for my son who only eats raw vegetables and chicken that is never frozen. He used this knife to cut vegetables only and washed it by hand; Before one week was out, the blade was chipped. In contacting the Shun knife warranty office, I learned that we would have to pay shipping to and from the company; plus they were not guaranteeing that they would replace the knife or repair it. The consumer line was off-putting and not concerned that the knife failed within one week.

Scary Sharp
First of all, I sharpen all of my knives (60+) and usually get them appropriately sharp for the job/task that they are designed for. I have used Spyderco's Tri-Angle Sharpmaker for years and have sharpened well over 100 knives with it (friends and acquaintance's). So, although I'm not an 'expert' knife sharpener, I do know a thing or two about how sharp something needs to be. The usual 'RAZOR SHARP' that's applied to everything today is so over-abused, that using it here is meaningless. I say all of this to try and make a point with how sharp this knife came from the factory. This knife is so sharp that I handle it and treat it as if it's a loaded firearm: i.e.: with tremendous respect! ALWAYS keep your eye on that blade! It is almost unbelievable how well this thing cuts through vegetables, meat, tendons, etc! It is almost effortless. I will not attempt bone, nor would I recommend it and this knife isn't made for that. However, with everyday cutting, it is ridiculous! I cannot 're-sharpen' it because of its very acute angle (the Spyderco can only sharpen blades 20, 30 and 11 degrees--the last one being for scissor blades) and this 10" Shun blade is something like 25 degrees or so. This shouldn't matter because Kershaw--the parent company to Shun--should be able to resharpen it when needed. The ergonomics are outstanding. The build quality at this price point is outstanding. Plus, it looks beautiful and gets a lot of people's attention.

This knife is EXTREMELY fragile!
I LOVE this knife... and wish I had never bought it. It is a dream to hold, and it almost rock-chops and slices on autopilot. But I store and handle it very carefully and somehow I have a very small knick in the blade after only several weeks of use. I intend to baby it as best I can, and love it while it lasts, in spite of its fragility issues.

Great knife, no stand.
I have a collection of Ken Onion Shun knives that I use daily. Great knives that hold an great edge and the signature Ken Onion ergonomic design makes them easy on the wrist and arm. But all of the larger KO knives I have bought like the santuko or the 6" chefs came with bamboo stands. This one surprised me and did not so it lays on the counter next to the knives in stands until I can find one. Had I known I would have searched until found one with stand.

Superb knife in every way!
Picture this... What happens when you mix Superman, Hulk, Batman, Michael Jordan, David Beckham and super-chef Gordon Ramsey together to come up with a perfect awesome knife? The answer is this magnificent Shun Ken Onion 10" chef knife!!! Purposely designed to achieve my every desire in a knife. The wooden handle is fantastic- i never get tire using it even in long hours of continuous work, the Damascus layered blade is superb and cuts through so effortlessly. It is a sharp extension of my hand no doubt. I bought a Shun Edo 7.5" Santoku knife 2 weeks ago and its really great to use, but I realized that there is a sensible reason to buy a 10" chef knife that I can use in the Restaurant kitchen and all i can think of is this Ken Onion chef knife by Shun. After doing much research and comparing brands and design, I realized that although this knife is very pricey, it will be worth the money for sure. Many thanks to Amazon that they emailed me that this knife is finally available from a reputable Seller. I immediately bought this knife via Amazon and now my life is fulfilled and my wife happy because peace in the kitchen is restored. Don't miss out on this very great peace of knife! It's like having The original "Mona Lisa" painting in your kitchen and be able to do something useful with it than just stare at it 24-7. It is beauty and the beast mixed together and the result is surely beyond any expectation! worth the wait.

I fell in love with this knife at first touch
I have two 8" Shun Ken Onion chef knives which I adore and they are my go-to knives. As a working executive chef with over 40 years experience in the kitchen, I fell in love with this knife at first touch. When I decided to upgrade to my more familiar length of 10", I expected the same high quality but have been disappointed by this longer knife. The very first meal I was preparing I used this knife to split 2 live lobsters and later discovered that the blade had two chips broken off the center of the blade. Further use a few weeks later, another chip came off the blade. Now I keep it at home for less demanding tasks. I still love the 8" version but can not recommend this knife, especially at this price point.

Pretty good.
While I can't claim this one of my best knives, it's definitely up there on the next rung of the ladder. The blade is truly excellent, very sharp when delivered and definitely does the job. The overall manufacture results leave a little to be desired but are still acceptable and are pretty good. The build quality of the handle lets the side down a little but otherwise I'm very happy with the feel and usefulness of the package. The blade is definitely top notch. The blade itself is among the best but handle build quality is not a patch on the likes of Kin Knives for example (then again, neither is the price....)
