Has this been third party tested for heavy metals?

I actually sort-of have an answer to this! I drink two tins of this a month, and eat a lot of other high-quality dark chocolate as well (I guess I qualify as a chocoholic :). I was really alarmed when I read the Consumer Reports article, so much so that I shelled out the cash to have a 24-hour urine test for lead and cadmium done at Quest. despite all that dark chocolate I eat, and the two tins of the Equal Exchange dark hot chocolate a month, my lead & cadmium were each in the neighborhood of 10% the upper recommended range. I don't know what that says in the end--people's metabolisms differ, standards can be a little arbitrary, etc. But it sure put my mind at ease, anyway.

Is this a Dutch process cocoa?

Yes, it says right on the can that this is Dutch processed cocoa. You can see it in the photo of the back of the can.

I like to mix my hot cocoa with coffee- has anyone done this and how does it taste? Thank you for the help!

I always mix this cocoa with my coffee. It is a great combination...especially on a cold Winter's morning. This cocoa has a bit of a bite to it, so if you need to add a touch of milk to tone it down, then do so. The spicy hot cocoa and coffee are an excellent combination in my book.

Why if I buy one can it is$7.49 but if I buy 3, which should be discounted, it goes up to $9.22/can??

*old question, answering b/c it may still help buyers* I thought the same, but the “hot cocoa” and “dark chocolate” mixes are different. The dark choc. is meant to be made with milk (for the milk fat) and contains a lot more calories. The hot cocoa can be made with water and is made from real milk (milk chocolate?). I have no idea why the seller would not list their products as individual items. It’s confusing. For some reason we can’t buy just one can of the milk cocoa which is downright stupid. Don’t buy 3 cans of you don’t need it. There’s other hot cocoa brands for sale on Amazon.

Great Flavor not too Sweet.

For those not wanting a too sweet powder. Flavorful Dark Chocolate predominates and is sooooooooo satisfying. I also used this to add that DARK CHOCOLATE flavor to less strong Hot Chocolate powders.

Excellent but doubled in price

Love this chocolate powder. I put it on or in almost everything I eat or drink. I’ve even given it as gifts. Don’t like that it doubled in price.

Bitter and not at all satisfying

I enjoy a nightly treat of a cup of non-dairy hot chocolate. I have been enjoying the non-dairy Swiss Miss. I saw this and figured that it would be richer and more enjoyable. I was so wrong. I made this with extra creamy oat milk. I couldn't wait to finish the cup and honestly I wish I had just dumped it. It was not good. The taste is a bitter and as much as I expect some bitterness with dark chocolate, I figured that it would be balanced here. It is not. It is a lingering bitterness that just did not leave the palate. Also, the product did not fully want to dissolve in the HOT milk. It mixed but not fully. Not the biggest of deals there but it was a factor. I really like the ease of hot water with the Swiss Miss. I had thought of trying this with hot water but I can only imagine it would be so much worse than it is with the milk. Sorry to say that this was a waste of money for me. Not sure if there is anything I can do with the rest of the product, but I highly doubt I will be making another cup of hot chocolate with it again. I hate leaving negative reviews so I am giving this three stars but honestly, I really think it only deserves one.
