Mother and Son Time
I purchased this book with the intent of letting my son teach himself how to code. He is a 12-year-old just 3 days away from being a teen. He loves games, technology, and seeks out screen time. This was purchased as an end of summer compromise to screen time. It had the effect I was hoping for. He has quickly joined in the "Funhavingness" of the Learning to Code Process. He read his part, then made sure I read the parents note so he could begin. Since our purchase, he dove into the first Chapter and eagerly showed me how he was developing in superpower skills! Here's what I did not expect! I speak Spanish and I have been teaching "Super Son" the joy of a new langauage for the past year. Jeremy Moritz stated Coding is like learning a language....SO....Super Son decided to tell me how important and fun it is to learn a new language. Can you see where this is going? Yep! Time for mom to make the plunge and demonstrate an attitude for learning. Another unexpected revelation for mom, Jeremy wrote in a way to engage teens through "Dad Jokes" and his writing style and humor have kept me entertained. This has become an opportunity to have Mother and Son time that meets him on his territory and lets him be the leader. My only "drawback" in this purchase is that the online format works for Super Son, but not for his mom. So, Jeremy Moritz, you have earned an actual in print customer as I want to physically have a book. We are both looking forward to Volume Two! Thank you for sharing your skills in writing, humor, and coding.

This book is PERFECT
My sister asked me to teach my nephew how to code, and it's one of those things that I know how to do, but to teach ... different story. This broke it down so simply that I'm pretty certain I could teach my dad how to code in addition to my nephew. I hope he releases other books.

I "must get" book!
After hearing the author speak at a local conference, I was intrigued and wanted to learn more about coding. Code for Teens does not disappoint! Jeremy Moritz writes in a way that is very entertaining and easy to understand. Anyone can follow along with this book (even an old guy like me!)He helped me see the value in coding, and while my daughter is still a little young, we've already started working with her on some very basic intro stuff.I highly recommend this book.

Excellent book for kids especially if they do not have someone who knows how to write code.
Is it alright for me to use a book to learn coding aimed at people way younger then me? I hope so because this is an excellent book. Speaks in a simple language that is constantly reinforcing previous lessons and not just assuming the common mistake in these types of books. Not once did I find "here is something new that builds upon the last lesson that we we assume you know by heart because you did it a single shaky time." Wonderful reinforcement of work with simple instructions. Its what you need in a teaching book for someone when they cannot rely on an outside teacher. If you are a parent with no programming skills wanting your kids to learn it, I thoroughly suggest this book.

encourages independent learning
As a homeschool mom of five, with four of them being pre-teen and teen boys, I knew someone was bound to love this book! And it did not disappoint. My 12 year old has been systematically working through this book all summer and loving every minute of it. I'm so glad he can learn coding without having any input from me. He has repeatedly told me how awesome this book is. I agree! Highly recommend.

Best Beginner Book Out There for Coding
Beautiful Book! Well organized and great illustrations. The exercises in the book really help solidify the material. Each chapter builds on the previous seamlessly and by the end of the book, you'll have a real working knowledge of JavaScript. This book is perfect for anyone wanting to learn how to code or for those who need a simple refresher of the basics. As someone who's worked in the IT field for many years, I wish I had this book when I was first starting out. Can't wait for Vol. 2.

Great for a Homeschool Co-op
I have a background in software engineering and web design and used this book to teach homeschool co-op classes. My students enjoyed the book and said that the projects made the class fun. The author has taken challenging material and presented it in a way that helps students feel successful with their programming. The mixture of quizzes, drills, and projects (both "Follow Along" and "Do It Yourself") was great for reinforcing what was taught in each chapter. I highly recommend this book for self-study or co-op classes.
